I am thinking of changing hosting to either bluehost or hostgator. I notice the pricing on bluehost is $3.95 month. Will the price go up after a year? What are your thoughts on which one I should go with? thankss

They're both owned by the same company (EIG) among many other mainstream web hosts.

What are your requirements regarding hosting & what type of sites are you looking to host?

Some other popular hosting options are KnownHost; they've been around for a long time with reliable performance and good pricing. (VPS Though...if you want shared HawkHost might be worth looking to)

Look for a their coupon codes though.

We are currently using HostDime which is very good for support (they even helped when our sites got hacked); they are more pricier but well worth it for the quality of support they provide

$3.95 is promotional offer when bought for 2-3 years, they renew at regular price of $6.95-$8.95 depending on the contract period again. If really want, you can sign up for 3 years at the promotional price and save some money.

Even though both are EIG companies, I would personally recommend Hostgator. Sign up with a monthly contract and change for larger contract period if you are happy after 1-2 months.

    Hostgator is relatively better, since:

    1. They have better support. Even though EIG took over them recently, there isn't much change as far as I know. They are friendlier and faster with resolving your issues. When I had a virus issues, Hostgator indeed cleaned the site for me within no time. Bluehost on the other hand, asked me to clean or be prepared to get the account closed.

    2. Monthly contracts. That is the best way to do shared hosting.

HostGator is at the same price right now, using coupons will save you even more, so what is your question about, price comparison or service comparison?
I'm with HostGator and very pleased.

Who are your currently hosting with and what problems (if any) are you having with them? How many websites are you hosting?

I have been using Hostgator for several years now and have no problems. I do have nearly 20 websites with them. I use the Fantisco installer to install wordpress etc for blogs and Cpanel for managing everything. I had a couple of small issues over the years but their support always got it sorted out.
