How to pay for good content writers?

Hello,

What strategy do you use for paying content writers? Do you pay them monthly? Per article? How do you do it? Any advice?

Thank you.

Doesn't this depend on your needs? The number of articles you need and if they are always in the same niche.

I have a content writer in full time employment and I pay him weekly because that suits our needs best.

On the other hand I take on articles as well on a per needs basis and I pay per article.

So you suggest paying per article... not a monthly price...

As for, i always negotiate with the writer on the number of articles he or she can produce for me in a month and the price on the articles. And in the same process, we will have talk over method of payment too, because some of them do from country outside paypal.

I think paying per article is a better option. You kind of pressurize the writer to work faster if he wants to earn more.

If you offer to pay him monthly, then you'd better set a minimum number of articles to meet, lest he delibrately works slowly just to leech off you. Normally, the monthly option is offered to a writer that you've hired for a decent amount of time and is someone you can trust.

It depends on the site you use. Iwriter.com requires payment per article feelance sites per hour or projec such as Elance or Odesk. I prefer to test their services first before hiring them and negotiate with them the b EST way to pay them.

It depends on whether you're using a platform or not. If you're using a platform, the payment process and terms are set.

As a writer, what works for me is invoicing the client. For multiple articles, it's much easier to invoice for let's say, a group of 10 articles as opposed to invoicing for each one individually. I think you should do whatever works for you. If you are trying services for the first time, you certainly don't want to pay for 5-10 articles, not knowing the quality of the work. On the other hand, if you have built a relationship with a writer that you use often, it's a bit of an hassle paying or invoicing for one article at a time.

It depends on the volume of work: if you're planning to make 'em write dozens, pay your writers on a monthly basis. If you are going to outsource just a few, pay per piece.

Yes, but they are not usual writers, just people for example experts in a niche (animals or bicycles), who could be also jobless...

From MY point of view, as being the writer:

    * No work EVER in advance without pay for new clients. There is a reason for that, trust me!
    * Long term clients who keep ordering are getting invoiced every week. It is just more convenient for them and for me.
    * Smaller orders, "articles" etc. always require payment upfront. I can also not go to the grocery store and get whatever I require and tell them I come by tomorrow and pay them.
    * Bigger orders in the range of several hundreds $$$, like web copy or ebooks: 50% in advance and rest on delivery. Fair for them and for me if a project needs longer.
