Choosing the right domain name.

15 replies
Hello, fellow warriors.
If you'd be so kind, I'd like to hear your thoughts on this matter.

I'll be launching a site soon, in which I'll invest a lot of effort, but I'm not yet sure on what domain name to use.

The options are Keyword.tv, KeywordWorld.com.

A good example would be Girls.Tv and GirlsWorld.com.

The keyword in the domain, would not be the main target of the site although it'd be great to boost SEO as well.

Also, the content wouldn't be purely audiovisual.

What do you think?
Thanks in advance!

    Try to use a keyword that would be the main focus of your site. What is the overall niche or sub-niche of your site? From there you can narrow in on a keyword.

      A lot of people say pick TLD's, but my sites use .info and they rank fine. ( depending on the competition). Think of your company as a whole in regards to branding. Even if your keyword isn't in the the domain name with enough high quality SEO or paid advertising your site can rank.

    hm, a brand name (womook) isnt good if your site isnt "famous". It just wont rank well. And you will have to get a lot of advertising for it.
    Just go with the keyword tld but add something short. The lenght matters. Like "eGirls.com"
    or "girlsOn.com" or something like that

    Are you going to be putting mainly videos on the site? If so, then the .tv should be fine.

    However, I always stick with .com, .net, and .org.

    First of all, whether you use a [b].com[b/], .net, .tv, or .org, it does not make a big difference to Google.

    If I were you, I would go with a .com name and have your niche name in the domain name. People recognize the .com more then any other extension.

    So for example, if you are going to sell clothes for girls, I would add clothes or wear for girls in the domain name.

    I'm a firm believer in the .com. Basically, if you can find your main keyword or maybe a low hanging phrase in a .com url, this is still your best case scenario.

    First of all, thanks for everyone's answer, appreciate it.

    The domains I've got are the best I could get, it is a highly competitive sector, and I rather have a brandable domain than extra keywords stuffed in it (not compatible in this case).

    The example is good, so the choice would be between Girls.Tv and GirlsWorld.TV (let's assume these are the domains).

    If they were two .coms there wouldn't be any doubt, right?

    What is your point of view?

    I speak as a visitor..

    .com is always better and easier to recall. GirlsWorld.com sounds better and that should be your choice. Let me know when it's active. As I have voted for it.

    Cheers!

    Alright then, last hours before making the final decision, any further insight would be more than welcome!
    For now, the results of the poll show great preference for the .com, this are the votes so far:

    GirlsWorld.com -> 7 votes (87.5%)
    Girls.tv -> 1 vote (12.5%)

    I just feel Girls.tv would make such a good brand, but I could be terribly mistaken.

    I am a firm believer in dot com because it is easier for people to remember. I like GirlsWorld.com because I think that would attract attention.
