Newbie Question About Providing Web design services...

When you're providing mobile web design services to offline businesses, do you tell them to buy a new domain name? And then do you ask them to provide either there cpanel info or wordpress info?

Or do you set it up on a doman name for them and then transfer the domain to them?

You can do it either way - depending upon the client. In some instances you may want to keep the domain name with the caveat in your contract that you will push it to them when they stop using your services. You can always give them access to the cpanel if they want it.

in my experience with this (only one occasion), as the designer, I purchased the domain and we had a small contract drawn up between us to say they would pay x amount for my services for a minimum of 12months time. following which ownership of the domain would be transferred to them at their cost if they wanted to use another registrar to hold it for them or freely under my business name with my preferred registrar. they would then have the cpanel access to do whatever they wanted with it. If they did not fulfill the payments over 12 months and my fee had not been settled then i retained ownership of the domain until the money in question was cleared in my account.

    hope that helps.

We've done both. In the past we took care of domains for clients, but we no longer do that. We make them responsible for their domain and their hosting.

We will buy the domain for them and then transfer ownership once we get paid for our services. The same with setting up a blog.

And we really haven't had any issues getting hosting, cpanel or WP access from clients that we have trusting relationship.

We've run into a lot of people who have been burned by certain designers and design companies. Your best bet is to do things that make you look like you're going above and beyond your responsibilities to your clients and customers.

Trust goes a long way and it's great for getting new customers through referrals.

      Good luck.
