It's probably something like this: The voiceover is recorded with Audacity or another audio editor. The text is put onto a number of Powerpoint slides. Special effects are added to make lines of text appear one after another.

Then the Powerpoint presentation is recorded in Camtasia while playing the voiceover in the background (to get slide timings right). Once the slides are recorded, the voiceover is imported to Camtasia, where it should match the slides perfectly. Additional synchronization can be done, effects added, etc. Then the whole project is rendered as an mp4 file.

You can also do it all in Powerpoint (no Camtasia) by setting the timing of the slides (while playing the voiceover), importing the voiceover into Powerpoint, then saving the whole thing as a video.

It's easier than it sounds, I think.

Gail is probably pretty close. This is a very simple video that can be made in a number of ways, using a variety of programs. You could even use Paint to create the slides and probably Windows Live Movie Maker.

The "hard" part would be creating the voice over, which can be done using Windows' recording or probably Audacity. You just need a mic.

Yes, I do many of these. It is easier than it sounds, but I have discovered many people can't do them, especially when it comes to timing everything. The secret is the methodology. I've done it every way imaginable and this works well:

        1. Write a script.
        2. Create PPT slides
        3. Record the PPT with screen capture (not inside PPT) while reading the script (but not recording it)
        4. Record the script in Audacity
        5. Add the audio to video in Camtasia. You edit the video to match the audio, not a problem if you did step 3 correctly.

Also, the pace of audio and video should be fairly fast... they get boring quick if the pace is conversational or slower.

You can build a presentation then talk over it using a screencast program.

That is a rather 'agricultural' example of a Powerpoint video.

In PP 2010 you have the choice of recording your presentation as a video using Camtasia (with a plug-in) if you have that programme or, alternatively, you can save the prsentation as a video in PP itself and then add a voiceover using Windows Movie maker.

Honestly, though you can make the videos far more interesting than that one. There are loads of animations, smart art, stock photos and graphics you can employ.

Even having the text fade in would have been an improvement in your example.

I'm not sure if you're an Apple user or not, but Keynote has this feature built in. In Keynote you're able to record a presentation (w/ voiceover) extremely easily and it's great quality. Keynote is worth the price for this feature alone.

It seems like the video is just a simple power point imported to camtasia and then an audio overlay is put with the video

I have used www.JMDesignCo.com before. He was very good and would be able to produce anything you need. However, it is fairly expensive!

Usually the hardest thing is sync the audio with the PPT, but we can do it with few simple tricks like adding delay, split the audio, or anything that suits the best. this is simpler type of whiteboard videoscribe (PPT videoscribe?)

These are quite simple recording powerpoint in Camtasia and talking as you go. It can get more complicated with "draw" type whiteboard videos that require significant writing or drawing as you talk - there we typically record audio separately in Audacity and do some delay tricks to later speed up the video so it appears animated.

But for this type of presentation where you have bullets of text appear it simply requires animtion in PPT and then once the presentation is finished you record with Camtasia - I believe this is what he did as you can even hear the odd keyboard click when text lines appear which is simply advancing the animation on the fly with PPT
