How To: Facebook, Twitter and G+

I'm a bit behind the curve on getting into social media but I understand that Facebook, Twitter and Google+ are the ones to focus on, can anyone recommend a "simple" basic guide that covers how to get started with these for marketing a website/blog

Also if I have multiple websites in different niches do I need to setup multiple accounts?, I'm not sure what is the smart way to manage social media for multiple websites without creating a hugue amount of work

Any tips on getting started in this will be appreciated

thanks!

  • Kenwarrior,

You touch on a couple of important concepts here. The first is which social networks to focus on. If you are hearing that Facebook, Twitter and G+ are the ones to focus on with all other information about your company being disregarded, I would not listen to this advice. You want to find networks that your target market is active on. Yes the social sites you mentioned have the lion’s share of the market however that doesn’t mean they are right for all businesses. Spend some time “listening” on these networks. Search for mentions of your brand name or products/services that you offer. Your market could very well be active on these networks because many markets are but don’t start diving in just because they are the hottest thing.

Here are some good tips for finding your audience,

The second concept I noticed you mention is about your niche. If your websites are unrelated then you should create separate social accounts for each of them. Your brand online should be consistent just as it is (or should be) in the physical world. Also, it will take a lot of effort even for one social media property to successfully engage your audience and get them to do what you want. It really is a full time job so my best advice would be to not go into it thinking it won’t be a lot of work. I think one of the primary reasons businesses and individuals don’t have success in social media as a business venture is because they give a halfhearted attempt or think it will be easy.

Hope that helps and good luck!

Hi can you tell me how you manage those accounts?
Do you use an application/website for it?

I know about onlywire but that a bit expensive.
      Thx for the feedback.

There's an absolute ton to cover here, most of which I won't include because it's mainly over at the Social Media Marketing Forum, so i suggest you go and check that forum out and read until your eyes hurt. A lot of your questions may be answered there too, so give it a look!

    Facebook

With Facebook, you've got some great tools at your disposal. Google AdWords is limited when you compare it to Facebook's advertising system, so I suggest you run a small pilot on the quality of traffic etc.

There's a great WSO here: http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...pies-free.html (not mine!) which shows you how to get $0.01 per click from Facebook Ads which is great!

Another quick tip is to make sure you select your demographics down to absolute pin point accuracy. "Teenagers" for example is a massive and broad age group, but "13 year old females who like Cartoon Network" is a hell of a lot more specific. Without any details from you on what you're trying to achieve (niche etc) it's hard to give you a related example, so try and apply the above one to your own work.

    Twitter

Twitter is easy. It really is. Ignore the gurus, the WSOs, everything that people try and sell you. If you haven't got a Twitter account already, set one up and use it for personal use for 2 months or so. In my first month of Twitter, I racked up just under 20k tweets and made a ton of friends. I even gained over 700 subscribers passively on Twitter and made some side cash from running a gaming YT channel, mainly pushed forward by my Twitter followers.

There are a few key things in regards to Twitter that you need to pay attention to:

    - Replies: If you're trying to tweet somebody with a link to your blog, stop. Read through their 50 most recent tweets and see if any of them are replies. Quite often Corporate Twitter accounts are manned automatically, often tweeting from a plugin or PHP script, meaning that nobody really reads your tweets, any replies they get, that kinda stuff. If their account hasn't replied to anyone in 50 tweets, I wouldn't bother.

A side note: If a tweet gets really popular and you reply to it, whenever someone clicks the direct link to the tweet, your tweet that you replied with will show up underneath. You could promote something related there, but it's hit and miss, but it can work out very well.

Trends: Struggling for traffic? Twitter trends are incredible. They're hastags (search terms) which are being tweeted by hundreds of thousands of people, and quite often being read by more. I've personally gotten something trending worldwide with the friends I mentioned above and gained around 200 followers, it works well.

Note: you can change trends from worldwide to your local city, a random country or anything at all. Don't just stick with the current worldwide 8 trends, have a hunt around

Go through a trend that relates to your niche and reply to a few people. Be real, no sales pitch. I'd rather gain 3 new followers with no sale than 3 link clicks, no conversion and still no more followers. They're people, not wallets with a twitter app. Be considerate, don't spam!

    G+

I'm no real help with G+ to be honest. I've spent upwards of half an hour total on there, I've got 8 people in one of my circles and that's it.

It's untouched and growing very fast. Get used to G+ NOW

    Check out this: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...&ndplr=1#gid=0

It's a MASSIVE shared circles list which is categorized according to niche and interests. A G+ circle is like a club at school. You go there because you enjoy playing piano, playing football, that kinda stuff. With a G+ circle, you add people to your own personal circles from the shared one. You have a common interest, and the person you added gets an email directly to their gmail account with your name and a note saying you've circled them. That's DAMN GOOD.

Like I said, get used to G+ more than Twitter or Facebook. It's gonna get big, very big, over the next 3 years and you'd be stupid to not take advantage of that.

I hope this helps, if you're a war room member I'll be releasing an eBook to the WR in a few days with all of this in, but with much more detail and guides etc!

    Jamie.
