No, internet marketing is not a business. All it means is that you use the Internet to market whatever your real business is. For most people using affiliate marketing as their monetization strategy, their actual business is web developement or web publishing.

Using internet marketing can definitely be long-term. Unless the Internet gets shut down, of course, but that's a terribly remote possibility. Conceivably you could earn a million dollars with affiliate marketing. I believe some of the top affiliates earn right up there in that range, but most don't.

Then again, what's the likelihood of earning a million dollars annually in the job market? Pretty slim.

I'm not rich or a rich internet millionaire, however I pay the bills marketing online. There are ways to pull it off for sure; if you develop a solid software and have connections to bring it to market, I believe that can pay off huge. Selling services in the right places and using online methods to drive leads and sales can work. I'm actually working on a little bit of both right now.

Some people can create products all day long and market them well. I know there are rich affiliates; in fact I am talking with a guy right now that does CPA marketing and he's doing very very well. Another guy told me you'll never make it as big as you can in product creation, and in theory I think he may be right. If you get a number of affiliates on board and have a huge launch, chances are the numbers will be staggering. same thing with a service, if you set up a system for collection of leads and your profit per deal is high, it can be done.

In short, if you get into product creation or service selling and you're marketing it online, yes; you can get rich

My little Plus if you want to establish a business to add income stream to your payday,

you need to build that site and monetize it.

if you have a low budget as you mentioned,

1- You will need Patience to have a fresh site to start having huge traffic (free way) or Paid for that traffic (in this second case you must increase your budget, $25 - with Google Adwords will get you $100 free coupon- and of course lot of traffic*) then think of $45 at least as budget.

2- You will need to choose which method you will use to monetize your site with (adsense, affiliate or selling your own product/membership site) there is lot to do, but at the end it is rewarding... (don't be one of those lazy people who look for means to get $100 online overnight without doing any work... (that's not the real world)

3- Discipline is master key to success in life and it's not exception online.

4- Well apply yourself to take your site as a real business asset.

5- more could be said on this while... (that's my help...)

it may not sound so elaborate... but if you think deeply on these things you can find your way.

well, you need to know that there is a whole, and that a whole is made up parts. Ok, I'm just part of something bigger called marketing. IM is jst a tool to pur products or services in front of those who need them. Many of those guys who become billionaires are crazy hard working people who are opening the doors of opportunity.

If you can make full of the tool well, then you can have your own online business and market it on your own. Internet marketing is what you do if you HAVE a business with a presence on the Internet, just like offline marketing is what you do if you have an offline business and don't market it on the Internet.

I believe that internet marketing is a medium to market your business. For example, you can be in a business of selling information products, or physical products and use the internet as a medium to market your product, brand yourself etc.

It works pretty similar to offline marketing, like placing newspaper ads and posters to create brand loyalty etc, only that the internet is a really fast MEDIUM of reaching out to people on a wider scale.

Internet marketing can be your hobby, your sport, (your financial downfall when not taken seriously) or you can create an internet marketing business for yourself. Provided that you treat it like a business.

Treating it like a business simply means that you do (at a minimum) the following 3 things :

1.) Have a plan or strategy to market (advertise and promote) a high quality product or service at a profit. This should include having online assets such as a website or blog with plenty of good content, an email subscriber list and a good followup sequence for creating repeat business.

2.) Plan your day/work in advance. This should include increasing your knowledge/skills on a regular basis and creating both short range, daily action plans as well as your long range business plans.

3.) Working your plan on a regular and consistent basis, making corrections, changes and improvements as you go.

Internet Marketing is definitely good business model. Just like any offline business, you need marketing professionals to promote your products/ services. It just that your field is in Internet world. You will need to focus on what you interested in, marketer or product creator.

If you want to know if you really can make a living out of it, yes, it is possible. It requires a lot of work and dedication.
The advantage I see is that you can start with less than what you need for a tipical brick and mortar type of business.

If you're talking about affiliate marketing, then in a sense it's not a business. But OP, you could always end up being an online retail store one you have enough investment to sell your own products and that would make it a business.

When I think of Internet Marketing I think Marketing is the way and Internet is one of the methods to get it out there.

its a business for those like myself that treat it like a business, if you treat it like a business your more likely to have success.

I have been in this business for 6 years and have been making great money all of those 6 years, but I always understood it was a business and not just a hobby.

It is my only source of income, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I think it depends on what you are doing.

If you are selling your own services, you will have customers. You will have affiliate's working for you selling your services for a commission (employees).

Sounds like a business to me. You will need a support system. Pay taxes. Everything an offline business will have.

But what about the other 99.999% of the people who "market"?? Their business is not marketing - it's plumbing, legal services, acocunting, etc.. marketing is how you generate business for your business..

If I own a car dealership, and 30 sales every month comes from internet shoppers - am I a marketer, or a dealership owner?? which is my business? I know how my father would answer that - he's a dealership owner. Not a marketer, not an internet marketer.
