How to promote in 2013

I am always looking for new unique ways to drive traffic to my sites. Some of this old content/tactics I have and somewhat still use are really outdated. So recommendations for products or just in general what you find effective to drive traffic to your optin pages/blog ?

Thanks!

    I still like article marketing.

    I like video marketing.

    PPC still works.

    Forum marketing works really well.

For me, the social side of marketing online like MySpace, Facebook, and Twitter never really worked as well as I wanted them to.

So far, I have seen no reason at all for not continuing with these proven marketing methods:

      Content syndication
      Email
      Social media
      Webinars
      Podcasts
      Mobile marketing
      Telemarketing
      Direct mail
      Seminars
      Online/offline media advertising
      Referrals
      Direct sales

I have always used quite successfully what even many of my own competitors consider a too simplistic approach: Go where you are most likely to find your targeted prospects - online or offline. An effective funnel system should dynamically include as many prospect/customer contact points as possible.

Pinterest and Reddit are picking up as good sites through which you can drive a lot of traffic. Social Media as a whole is the biggest emerging SEO platform for this year.

I think that 2013 is a year of Social Media!
You really can't make a mistake using social media
in order to promote your site!
YouTube, Google+ and Pinterest are great traffic sources!
    And Google likes social signals!
So maybe the best way is to build relationships and provide
    value using social media sites!

And one more thing and that's mobile marketing
in terms of creating mobile version of your site!

Obviously the old hat ways will never die (I hope): SEO, Video, Content, Social Media and so on.

For 2013: Keep an eye out any new/growing social networks and get on them as soon as possible. Look at what Pinterest achieved in 2012. And they're still growing!

I also think forms of mobile/tablet marketing need to be addressed and focussed on. Not sure how (so a useless comment in a way) but if you can master a way to get your products in front of people on their mobile devices then you'd certainly be in a good place.

Look at making your sites responsive etc - Mobile marketing is only going to grow.

At the end of the day, quality content is the most important thing to producing quality traffic.

Creating 1 piece of quality content and then syndicate it across different mediums such YouTube, FB, Twitter, PDF sites (DocStoc, etc.), Podcasts, Tumblr, Press Releases

Leverage your content as much as possible so you can extract the value.

Everything you did in 2012, things don't change arbitrarily on January 1st every year.

One simple thing that made a difference for me is a small change of mindset. Rather than thinking of ways to "drive" traffic, think of ways to "draw" traffic to you.

I like the image of chumming as practiced by some of our local offshore captains.

They'll locate a structure, like a reef or a wreck, and scope it out for the presence of both baitfish and larger target species. Rather than try to force the fish away from the structure, they position themselves upcurrent from the structure. They then toss out bits of bait, which float down on the current to the structure. Target fish consume the bits of bait, and then follow the stream of easy pickings away from shelter and toward the boat. As they approach the boat, the fish are presented with a larger chunk of bait - only this one has a hook in it.

The bits of chum are your ads, articles, videos, etc. The bait with the hook in it is your landing page, be it a squeeze page, sales page, etc.

Tip: If you use strategies that rely on getting traffic from google by using other sites (like article marketing), take a look at which sites are still getting good traffic from this engine.

One way to do this is by checking those sites with semrush.com (after entering the domain, you can see a chart on the left with estimate traffic coming from G to that site). Since Panda/ Penguin and so on, it's a good idea to make a list of movers & shakers.

On the other hand YouTube videos it's still a great way to get traffic from the video sharing network itself + from Google (many times videos rank really fast on first page).

    Best Regards,

    Diego.

Not so much SEO and I liked the comment about thinking of was to draw traffic to your site. That's where I am getting at, there are always little niche product etc that give you a little bit of a viral edge if used correctly. Id love to hear stories about that and what products you have found to be effective for exposing your sites/squeeze pages to the masses. There are new methods out there
