Is there one that will charge in £ as opposed to $? My bank adds a £5 charge on for every non-pound transaction. I would prefer Aweber but I can't see the option to be billed in a different currency.

I haven't actually seen any of the biggest autoresponders charging in pounds, but you might try to ask them for an option like this, but it's very unlikely.

Hi Ryan. What bank are you using for your business account? I've never run into any issues like this, except fees for foreign cheques (that's 'checks' for the rest of you ).

Natwest, they have charged as little as £2 and as high as £5 for processing foreign currency transactions. It only occurs on my business account and not my personal. I was tempted to put through transactions on personal then bill to my business but HMRC said I can't do that.

I'm extremely surprised to hear that. I'm not an accountant, and have no wish to have an argument with HMRC but I know people who've been told the opposite, and people who routinely do that.

May I ask what reason, reference or evidence someone in HMRC offered for this very strange-sounding "rule"?

They didn't come out straight and say it. When I asked them about it though (I was regularly paying for stuff out of my personal account) they said that doing things like that regularly can look a little bit odd to them and perhaps I should slow it down.

My unqualified guess is that they can't, either, because it isn't actually there to be said/claimed/referenced, and you're perfectly entitled to do that, if you want to. And you certainly have a good enough reason to want to, don't you? (And one they should understand, surely?).

Possibly I'm mistaken, but I think a conversation with an accountant will help you, Ryan.

Yes I am. I think it is because I am using a business account, after all, if you can get extra money out of a business why wouldn't you? It sucks because I have transactions in a number of different currencies fairly regularly (SEK and USD being the big ones) which does eat into my profits a tad.

Lloyds TSB do not charge, they just convert $ to £.
