Local traffic methods?

I'm a little embarrassed to ask about this - because I've been
around for awhile and my whole business is built around getting
traffic from English-speaking countries... so worldwide traffic
is what I know about.

I'm promoting my girlfriend's bellydance teaching practice though
and while I run some ads on Craigslist - I'm a bit at a loss for
how to get more internet traffic to something that is so locally
targeted.

Eventually she may start teaching outside our area but in the
meantime she just needs a list of local women who want to
learn how to bellydance.

Ideas?

I can be a little more specific - the state-of-awareness of
bellydancing varies. I don't think many people are typing
"bellydance class Northampton MA" into Google so that sort
of thing is not likely to be very useful in the short-term.

Where the awareness tends to be is:

-looking for something to get out of the house and have fun
    -lose weight, have fun
-already know some bellydance and interest can be re-activated by exposure
    to the word.

So it's not like women are likely to be searching for what she
is selling - they'll be searching in much more general terms.

I'm looking at MySpace PPC but as I understand it I'm not sure
our narrow target group would put as at the $5 per day minimum
even and I'm reluctant to target a broader group of fitness
enthusiasts, preferring to target women who claim "yoga"
or "dancing" as a preference. In our area that's something
less than 1000 Myspace users who like both in a 20 mile radius...
    who are out of HighSchool.

I think you need to start with why these women want to belly dance. Is it to keep fit? Is it to make friends? Something else?

As a guess I'd say keeping fit would be a big motivator so you could target <fitness keyword> <area> which should get you some decent traffic.

This seems like an ideal service to do some offline marketing for. Once you know why people want this service and who your customers are you can look for lists that cover this demographic in your local area.

I just made myself laugh by thinking that the local weight watchers list might be an idea but I'm not sure they will want to be swinging around their belly fat.

Community based advertisang would also work. If it was me I would approach all the local gyms to see if there were any angles I could work.
