Which friend would sell me an ebook?

It is always told that you have to be a personal friend for your prospects.

Not a sales man who is speaking AT his audience but a "friend" who is speaking TO a single person.

But: Which friend would take money and sell his friend a product?

A marketer HAS TO sell and has to pitch. Not like a friend but like a sales man.

What are your thoughts?

You don't want to be a friend with your prospects. You want to be an authority... Someone who they turn to for knowledge, valuable information, up to date information and if needed, guidance. Remember that when you are selling to your prospects.

Maybe. I haven't seen the comments you're referring to, but my guess is they don't mean "friend" in the traditional sense, they mean you have to have their best interest at heart. In other words, respect them and don't promote garbage to them just to make a buck. Give them value in exchange for being on your list.

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.

I agree with Dennis, you have to be a friend in the sense that you aren't just after their money. You have to give them exceptional value in what you are selling them. If you were a car salesman, you would probably give your friends a great deal but you wouldn't give them the car for free. You also wouldn't have to pitch your friends as they would know that you were giving them a great deal becuase of the relationship you had with them.
of course, online, just as in real life, if you were to abuse that friendship and rip someone off, they wouldn't be your friend for long.

I agree with you. The relationship must be established for the sale to be made. A customer can then become a friend. I constantly preach that sales only happens when a customer gets to "know, like, and trust."

it pretty much just means focus on helping out others, it's really just the give first principle, which will help you out immensely in this business.

What is the issue with being a seller? A seller is someone who knows what the other party needs and stress the benefits of the product to solve the issue of the other party.

You should be your customer’s friend when you have this chance. If you have regular customers you should be their friend. Give them special discounts, do something for them as a friend, with the intention to please them. This is something that they will notice.

You have to build a relationship with someone, and learn something about the other person before becoming their friend.

Your friendship in this case is real because you show to your customers that you are grateful because they are helping your business, and you gladly give them more advantages. They deserve to be treated like special customers.

This is how you can interpret the advice you had; it is another way to interpret this advice.

You should pay attention to your best customers and be their friend instead of treating them the same way you treat everyone else.

You want people to look up to you, you want them to see you as the MAN. If you give away free eBooks and small products you have made your self FREE, then they may see your really there to help them. Then further down the line you can then start promoting affiliate offers, but I would always make sure you promote products which really help and are not crap. It can be hard finding good products from the crap ones.
