plugincheck: or How my Firefox browser got hijacked by... well... Firefox.

Okay, hijacked by Mozilla.

I logged in to my Firefox browser a few days ago to be greeted by not only my home page but a new tab with a plugincheck page. Of course this came at a most inconvenient time and it noticeably slows down the start of the browser.

After a day or two of this I upgraded the offending plugin thinking that the plugincheck page would go away. You got'ta love optimistic thinking. The slow-loading Firefox with the plugincheck page is still there.

Maybe I can turn off the offending page in Tools --> Options --> Something-or-other? Nope. Nothing there.

A quick Google search indicates that there is no option within Firefox to disable or remove the plugincheck page. Mozilla has included and auto-enabled module, plugincheck with no way to stop or disable it. Brilliant!

It turns out that the fix is to do some minor Firefox application-file surgery. My decision is to do some major Firefox surgery after I setup another browser.

In any event, if you run into plugincheck, you have some work to do.
