Best software for creating Ebooks

To date, what is the best piece of software to create your own awesome Ebooks?

I remember Office Word had some issues for people and open office was the one to go with..

Is Open Office the best way to go these days?

Why not just use Microsoft word and save as a .pdf file? Works fine for me.

I use Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat. Works great for me and I've never been very happy with the alternatives I've used.

You can use Word, Libre Office (the people who originally did Open Office before it was taken over), Open Office of course, Google Drive or anything else.

It's quite simple, really, and most PDF creators are free.

If you want the "best" however, it'd probably be Adobe Acrobat, with which you could make really cool PDFs for sure, but you'd have to pay over $100.

I just checked, and confirmed, Acrobat is part of the "Adobe Creative Cloud" for 49.99 a moth... Which if you do any design/photo/video work aside of e-books, is definitely worth it!

I use OpenOffice to create all my PDF ebooks and it's free and it works really well, so you can't go wrong.

    All the best,

I have acrobat pro - I might use that

I remember there were issues with making clickable links in word after it's converted to a pdf

Yes, I use Microsoft Word for creating and convert it in Adobe Acrobat.
For more versatile and ease of graphical reader interface to make a beatyful ebook I always favor with:
    - Microsoft Word for the initial wording process
    - Adobe Photoshop for graphic design process
    - Adobe InDesign for the combination of graphic and words into a beauty ebook.

But, it might consump more time than just using MS-Word and converting to PDF. It worth it to use.

I just wanna tell you that most of the links in the signature are trash and/or a trap to make you pay!

I use a template with Word and then convert it to a .mobi.
      Easy.

Definitely Microsoft Word and there is no need for anything else. From there, you can convert to a PDF from within Word or upload to the Kindle without dealing with .mobi or any other conversions.
