Build a list before a facebook fan page?

I know that building a list is extremely important for a new website and for internet marketing. I was wondering is there more of a benefit if you build a list before creating a facebook fan page? Since once you have a list of 50 to 100 subs you can share the fan page with them and get some "fast" likes?

Or is it better to build both of them at the same time?

    Hi

You can use both and get more opt-ins from your facebook page as well.

You should have your opt-in and sales funnel set up for your facebook traffic as well. Send visitors from your facebook page to your squeeze page, or include your opt-in form right on your facebook page so they can opt in directly on facebook.

IMO, it would help if you have a list and send to your list your fanpage updates. Keep your FB fanpage updated and let your list automatically know about it.

I would also start with the list first....
on your fanpage you can also place an opt-in which goes then to the same list.... or if you don't want an opt-in on your fanpage, you still can send the link to your fanpage to your list as soon as it's done...

After over 2 years of creating products and websites, and doing SEO, i've finally decided to focus on list-building as my core and foundation. Everything else I do will be based AROUND list-building.

Actually it does not matter which one you create first and which one afterward as there is no right or wrong when it comes to this. But a better strategy would be to create both altogether, so you can promote your list on the fb page and vice versa. This way you can keep building and marketing both of them.

Your Funnel should be build first then it can be used to build both.

Allows you to cross promote to your list and your facebook page
    using various types of traffic.

Not necessarily do that. But that will be another good example of your facebook fan page advertising. But be careful always to use both systems of advertising the fan page. I can prefer both the following systems for you -

How to Build Your Facebook Fan Base

Both the participation of bloggers, offering prizes and giving them a reason are important simultaneously.

honestly i would first decipher what your master plan will be. Is your marketing mainly coming from your list or coming from facebook. You can use your fan page to draw in more subscribers into your list... but do you want to as well draw in more fans from your email list? First find out what your desired end result is...

Do both but if you only had to pick 1, building your list is the better choice over Facebook BY A MILE.

Ofcourse if you already have a list , you can easy to get likes from them while they subscribe to you mean they are interested to you or loyal to you .
Once you get number of likes in the short time , it will be more easy to generate like while with the likes on hand will make people trust you .

Email marketing goes hand-in-hand with your social network initiatives (incl. Facebook). The ultimate goal is to communicate your message to your audience and, when combined, you can use email to drive people to your Facebook page and you can use Facebook to drive people to your email. It is truly a symbiotic relationship that lets you communicate with your audience using the channels that are more relevant to them.

  • It is better to create both of them at the same time but keep in mind that the more quickly you'll create them they will benefit you a lot.

Someone already mentioned it above, but using Facebook to grow your list is my favourite way of doing things. There's plenty of tools to help you with this but as the creator of one i'm biased - check out my sig below or search on google.

If you're looking to grow quickly the very best strategy is running a competition via Facebook. This way, you can tap into Facebook's viral capabilities and collect emails at the same time! So the way FanBoom handles this is by creating competitions where an entrant gets, for example, 1 entry to your competition for actually entering in their email, then you incentivise the entrant with additional chances to win for sharing your competition with their friends via FB and Twitter. So, for example you may decide to award 10 additional entries for sharing on FB and 5 for sharing on Twitter (the exact number of additional entries is customisable and up to you, as is the actual message and picture that's shared with the entrant's friends).

So with a little seed traffic either from FB ads, existing list, forums, etc... you can quickly get a large list built up with very little effort (assuming the prize is good and makes sense) as the sharing aspect quickly takes over bringing viral exposure for your competition (a.k.a list signup form!)

Not got a prize? Well our lead magnet feature operates on a similar basis, but is more like a traditional squeeze page where you could give away an ebook, voucher, etc in return for email addresses, rather than running a competition. Each has their uses although i tend to favour competitions personally.

With this method any likes generated on your fanpage is actually secondary. While nice to have from a positioning point of view, the value of a like as a means of direct access to your fans is rather diminished after recent algorithm changes at Facebook, so getting Facebook visitors onto a list and using the list for remarketing is where its at. Used correctly Facebook just gives you a powerful way to open the floodgates to your signup form!

Build the list and Facebook plus other social media pages at the same time.

The key factor though is to focus on generating opt ins even through social media channels rather than the likes or follows as if you get the opt ins you can market the connections through your emails to connect later on.

You do this by bringing traffic in through fan pages and engagement and directing them to where it is possible to opt in.

Fan pages should be strategically set out and optimised so any traffic they get are instantly told what you do and are about, then are left in no doubt about the next action they should take.
