Membership site (Joomla? WP?) and subdomains question

Howdy Warriors!

I'm thinking of setting up a directory-style site that has the ability for people to sign up as members so they can comment on listings, provide customer reviews, etc.

I'd like to do it like this:

keyword-1.mydomain.com/topic-A (another searched-on keyword obviously)
keyword-1.mydomain.com/topic-B
keyword-2.mydomain.com/topic-A
etc.

There are two reasons for this idea regarding the set-up:

1. I'm hardly an SEO guy, but this seems a good idea. Dunno. Thoughts?

2. Because of the name I want for the domain and how it snappily connects with what I want to use in the "keyword" slot of the URL. (But shhhh I'm huntin wabbits)

Now, this architecture I can handle no problem. It's a bit labour intensive, but that's okay.

However... there must be a simpler way.

Obviously, "mydomain.com/keyword-1/topic-A" is the simplest way, but, as I said, it'd be snappier if it weren't like this.

Still, "Snappier? ... headaches? ... snappier? .... headaches? ... Hmmm..."

And I'm not sure how to integrate the "community" element into it.

It doesn't need to be anything fancy.

I just don't want to have to install WP or Joomla on EVERY subdomain that I create.

AND... even if I did this, it wouldn't enable users to "cross comment" on the topics on other subdomains under the same registration.

What I mean is, if I signed up as a member (using, say, the Joomla installation) on the bratwurst.sausages.com/BBQ topic, it would allow me to comment there and on any of these:

bratwurst.sausages.com/BBQ
bratwurst.sausages.com/beer
bratwurst.sausages.com/curing

BUT...

I wouldn't be able comment on any of these, for example:

swojska.sausages.com/BBQ
swojska.sausages.com/beer
swojska.sausages.com/curing

... without first joining as a member of the "swojska.sausages.com" installation.

Which is too many hurdles for members to jump obviously. Who wants to have 10 logins on what, for all intents and purposes from the USER's point of view, is a single site?

Can anyone think of a solution for this?

Like I said, the community element need not be complex. It's basically so people can provide first-hand user-reviews and such.

Is there a way to install a script on the root domain (in this example, "sausages.com") which provides the commenting/community functionality to ALL subdomains on a single log-in?

I'm sure I'm just over-complicating it for myself as usual! LOL!

Thanks very much,
TheNightOwl

P.S. I don't own sausages.com! This is just a silly example. I see it's currently parked so if you fancy making a site like this and you love what we call "Mystery Bags" here in Australia, go for your life and make that cybersquatter an offer!

NightOwl - I think you said it all in that last sentence!

Are there no similar website models achieving similar to what you want before
building a new type of wheel?

Are you sure you even need to do any of that to achieve the results you want?

    Best,
    Adam

    Heya Adam.

Thanks for your reply. I think! :p

You could very well be onto something. However, I'm a tenacious bugger.

And this here's the first time I've quoted myself (LOL!):
