There are many places you can list it for free, some of the big ones are Sedo.com, NameDrive.com (NDX Market), BuyDomains.com, Afternic.com, GoDaddy, etc. If you sell it, you'll be charged a commission on the sale, the percentage and fees are set by each company.

There are agreements (MLS) in place between registrars, so, for example if you list it for sale on Afternic you can chose to promote your domain in several registrars at once (i.e. when someone searches for your domain name at GoDaddy it will be listed as available for purchase).

DigitalPoint, sedo and eBay are some of your options.

I've had some luck searching for domains/sites with similar names, or in a similar niche. I then post the domain for sale on sedo.com. After that, I look up the owners of the similar sites using whois. I'll send them an email letting them know that the site is for sale on sedo.com, but that I'd like a quick sale and would let the site go for less if they're interested.

I've only tried this on 5 domains, but sold 2 of them this way

It's a free method, and you don't have to pay commission to some other site. If it doesn't work, you can always use some of the suggestions others have left.

GoDaddy Auctions and Sedo are both good alternatives in my opinion if you don't have the listing money for some of the other options although GoDaddy Auctions charge $4.99 for basic annual membership to list domains plus a seller fee.

Try to sell it to your competitors. If it gets traffic, find Adwords advertisers and let them know how they could benefit from owning your site that attracts free traffic as opposed to having to pay for every click.
