Default Email Client recommendation?

Hello Folks,

I've been using Eudora for a few years, which I'm very happy with - but now have a specific need for which it doesn't seem able to deal with.

I have multiple domains, all of which have email addresses that are forwarded to my primary address. So, info@greatideas.com, support@anothername.com etc., all go to myles@primary.com When I reply to these emails, the response is shown as coming from my primary address.

What I would like is a desktop email client where I can select which email address is shown in the "from field", rather than as now, just having my myles@primary.com address showing as the return address.

Just wondering what other folks are using to solve this problem.

Hope someone can advise.

Many thanks,

Myles

Hey Michael, Eric,

Thanks for the recommendation. Does Thunderbird have a feature that allows you to specify different "from addresses" in the outgoing emails?

Best wishes,

Myles

Yes it does, and it is very easy to use as well. I would vote for Thunderbird as the best email client.

Yahoo does this too with non-yahoo addresses via SMTP. Plus unlimited storage.

I am using Thunderbird. I was using Outlook for years, then one day it wouldn't work. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and nothing. Looking for something similar to Outlook. Being a Firefox user, I had heard of Thunderbird and gave it a try. I have been using it over a year now and love it.

I have Thunderbird setup very similar to what you described. I have several email accounts setup in it, that all get forwarded to one generic account which I keep at the very top of the program. I keep that account "maximized", and all the other accounts "minimized". This greatly reduces the clutter and makes it much easier to deal with (BTW I use a plug-in called 'Folderpane Tools' to move the folders/accounts around).

If you set it up like this, whenever you reply to an email from the main (generic) account, it will automatically use the correct (pre-forwarded) email account in the 'From' field. Works perfectly.

If you need any help setting it up like that, just PM me.

Wow, Thanks everybody for all the feedback and advice. I really appreciate it.

Looks like Thunderbird has emerged as a firm favourite with most folks. I'll install it over the weekend and have a play with it.

Thanks again!

Best wishes,

Myles

I used Thunderbird until I needed to integrate my Google calendar with my email client and to my knowledge that only works with Outlook so I switched.

If I did not have to have that function I would have stayed with Thunderbird!

Chuck,

There is a thunderbird addon called Lightning. You can then set up your Gcal to sync with it. That's how mine is currently synced.

Here is an article telling how to do it... bfish.xaedalus.net Stay in Sync with GCal and Thunderbird.
