Best Free Screen Recorder

Hello Justin here

I was wondering what the best free screen recorder is?

I have tried Cam Studio and it seems a little slow(Doesn't keep up with mouse movement). Looks kinda cheap (I know, it is free).

I don't want to download recorder after another trying to find one that works. I'm just trying to do some short videos for a demonstration.

Any suggestions would be great.

I use Jing. I am going to be making tutorials using that tool and converting the format to mp4 for wider distribution.

Screencast-O-Matic is probably the best I used but I have since upgraded...

I know the offer unlimited screen casting with no time limit or watermark for something like $10 a year...

but you can definitely create a free account too

If you are using a mac with a fairly recent Operating system you can just use quicktime. There is a screen capture option under the File Menu.

A word of caution. It will create a video with a weird compression that other video players will not recognize, however you can easily convert it to something more "standard" using a free program like Mpeg Streamclip.

My Screen Recorder works well for me. The recordings are crystal clear, it is perfect for demos and tutorials. Not free, but not expensive either - Screen Recording Software: My Screen Recorder

  There was a similar thread a ways back. I forget who it was with the response, but the gist of it was that CamStudio can be set up to work every bit as good as Camtasia, minus the editor.
  
  To be fair, Camtasia's editor sucks bad anyways.

I recommend you Ezvid to capture HD screen capture.

Ezvid is not free (but you can download it from torrent)

Besides this you can also use Camsatia studio 8
