Newbie ebook questions

I noticed many people create ebooks and either put them out for free or paid. How do you get paid from these? affiliates? paid upgrades or subscriptions?

How did you come up with the idea for one? public domain? original copy?
it seems like a lot of ideas are regurgitated over and over on the same topic and niche.( i.e. internet traffic, seo, work from home, etc...)

has anyone produced a physical copy of their book that sold well too?

i just noticed many internet marketers can pump out content like there is no tomorrow. just looking for a little insight.

thank you

    I write ebooks.

I have a few on Kindle and I have a few that are PLR. I get paid per copy either way. My subjects are subjects (niches) that I am well educated and/or experienced in - and aslo highly interested in. I feel that's the only way to produce true quality, and I'm pretty fussy about the quality of what I put out. So far I haven't put out anything in hard copy (physical product), but that doesn't mean I won't ever decide to.

One effective method for coming up with ideas is to pool together say 3 or 4 of the best quality products that you have on any particular topic and then take the best bits from each and recreate it in your own style wording and presentation.

Of course you cannot plagiarize anyone and I dont want to get into a debate about this I am merely suggesting you use other peoples products for inspiration and then create something unique and original by constantly improving on already created quality ideas then expand, improve and change etc etc

People do this all the time and can actually create something original by working it and improving over and over.

Take a look at magazine covers for ideas. You will find the same topics sell over and over. Write it up with your unique perspective, adding value. That is a place to start.

I wrote my first free report on a subject I was passionate about. In it I linked to affiliate products which got me some income. I also promoted my Clickbank ebook in it.

For ideas you can look on this forum, other forums, Yahoo Answers, online magazines, offline publications for ideas and to see what questions people are asking.

I have also written a couple of reports from PLR material. I took the best information from two or three PLR reports and added my own information to it.

A lot of marketers outsource their content. I did that for a Kindle book. You need to specify exactly what you want. It's not always what you expect.

I am a Kindle publisher and I am sure that anyone who can filter information, give it a personal touch or has a bit of imagination can publish a book and make some money with it.

Personally I recommend approaching the evergreen niches and try to come up with up-to-date useful information. The content of the book will be the one making the sales on the long run.

After you have a good product you can start learning to market it and optimize it. I can help you with some advice if you wish. Just PM me.

I have been writing and publishing ebooks for more than a decade, never been big on free ebooks.

I have developed very pin-point reports that have been given away as part of a product launch or as an incentive to opt-in as part of a list-building campaign but my ebooks have always been sold stand-alone or as part of a bundle.

Even as such, the ebooks are typically always Phase 1 of a 3-4 phase campaign where I do ebook, upsell to ebook bundle, upsell to ebook+membership site, upsell to ebook+ coaching/consulting.

If you are more interested in developing content that will help pre-sell affiliate offers video is likely the better way to go these days...you can do a good job of either reviewing and/or pre-selling a product by walking the customer through it on video and then having them buy from your link.

As one other member also commented ebook should have connection with a problem. And the creator of the ebook should know the solution for that.
Now there are many different kind of problems in human life as well as in virtual life. And those are different niche on which you can publish your ebook.

And only writing a good ebook will not make good sales, you should also know how to market it properly to proper audience. That is very vital.

Information sells, so there is money in writing ebooks if you offer them to the right buyers. Whether the information will work in ebook, Kindle, or physical book depends on the information and its audience. What works great as an ebook might not translate to another format, and vice versa. Check out what has worked for others who write in your niche, and mirror what they have done.

Most of the time if the ebook is free it includes affiliate links to "recommended" products, or maybe it's a free report that is shorter and leaves the reader wanting more info, so they then buy a more complete version of the report at the writer's website.

I've done most of my publishing with Kindle, but I've written reports that I've sold as a WSO, and even given away reports as a free WSO (see my sig). I did take my best selling Kindle book and put it on CreateSpace as a paperback and it sells pretty well there, too.

Based on my experience, here are my replies to your questions:

    1. I have been writing for 30 years and I'm unsure why people give them away. Personally, I write to make money and free or 99 cents does not help realize that goal. I want to write and sell books that have value and have a profitable selling price. I realize that many people give away books as "loss leaders" for marketing purposes. That is usually part of a cross-marketing strategy, but that concept should not be a universal thing and should be tested for individual books.

    2. As a writer, I have never been at a loss for ideas. I write original books based upon research. That said, an idea is one thing, a profitable idea is another. I suggest you follow this path: Ask yourself what interests you the most, then do a little research on Amazon to see if there is a market for it.

    3. So far, my books are available in both paperback and Kindle. Kindle editions seem to sell better than paperback for me, so I am about ready to release some Kindle books first. In the past, I have always released the paperback first and Kindle about 6 weeks or so after that, but I'm going to be reversing that as an experiment.

There are many paths to success on Amazon.
