Do you have a review blog? Potential changes in US liability law.

Greetings warriors!

Just thought I would bring this to everone's attention - especially those of you who use a review type model for selling (this won't just affect 'mommy' blogs). There are some proposed changes in liability that may affect you/your business. This is something to keep an eye on for now.

"But the concern is about those instances when [testimonials] are delivered and it is not made obvious that it's an advertisement for a company."

Sponsored Ads generally need to be identified as such already, so as long as bloggers continue to state explicitly which of their review Ads were sponsored, there shouldn't be a problem?

Well, honestly it'll depend on how the FTC comes down on the issue. At any rate, anyone who has a review blog of any sort needs to be aware of what's happening with this as it could impact their business model.

@James - you're right. It could be tricky. Nothing to stop folks from marketing (IMO), but definitely worth keeping an eye on.

I don't understand really what the difference is between blogging about a product whether it be ranting or raving would be. As long as it was an honest review and not merely for a sale.If I truly don't like a product, I don't endorse it. I also add in the good and bad on a product.

I hope this law doesn't go through.
