Autoresponder on every website?

Hi all

Do you set up an optin and autoresponder for every site you do? (eg What about niche sites, where you may have only 20 pages, and want to link it up then move on to another website?).

A related question: If you dont have an autoresponder on a site, do you think the website will make enough money to cover the construction / content cost of say $2-300 (if you outsource the content)? ie is an autoresponder necessary to make a website profitable these days?

Thanks
Rod

Every site to which I'm trying to attract visitors/potential customers, of course.

Many of my niche sites have fewer than 20 pages, but they started off with an opt-in when they had only 1 page, before I attracted any traffic at all. I'm an affiliate marketer, myself, so the purpose of my websites is to build my lists. Why I would want traffic arriving at them without being able to opt people in and build my business?

I don't understand what you mean by "link it up". (To what?).

It isn't really possible to answer this question without knowing a lot more information than you've offered. It might be possible, technically, to do that, if you attract enough traffic, but you'd still probably be throwing 90%+ of the potential income away if you actually chose to do it that way.

First, I dont want to sound obsequious but I am honored you have answered my post. I have read and re-read, and copied into Word most of your posts on article syndication.

Thanks for the excellent answer. For a 1 page (per your post) to 20 page niche site, how many autoresponder emails would you set up? In such a case there would be as much or more focus on the autoresponder emails than on the site content, which makes sense based on your beliefs above (which I'm sure are true).

For each site, even only a 1 page site, do you prepare a free gift/bribe, or do you sometimes just put up an optin?

PS: By link it up, you know, I mean a) post content, b) build some links to the site c) move on.

I always start off with only 2/3 emails in the autoresponder, myself, but I'm ready to add some more pretty quickly when the first person subscribes.

This is perhaps a little "idiosyncratic" of me, but the amount of time elapsing, when I've started new niche sites, between "sending the first article somewhere" and "having the first person opting in" has varied between about half a day and more than a week (when I've started off with 2 or 3 ezines and I'm awaiting their publication-dates etc.).

In any case, having someone opting in is always a pretty good incentive to drop other work for a few hours and get a few more messages loaded into the autoresponder series.

I put more effort into the autoresponder contents, in general, than the "site design". I'm not a great believer in "site design" per se. I think most affiliate marketers' sites are over-complicated, over-designed, sometimes confusing, and so on, at the expense of often failing the Seth Godin "Where's The Banana?" test (if you know what I mean). For me, the purpose of the site is simply "getting the opt-in", which I want to do in a non-squeeze-page way, i.e. by showing people it's a "content site" (even if there's only a page or two of content, right at the beginning) rather than a "squeeze page". Again, perhaps a little idiosyncratic.

"1 page" was a slight exaggeration, I admit: I mean one "proper content page". (One needs other pages, in reality, such as the affiliate disclosure/legal requirements - which I'm not going to put all on one page). I think 3 articles is the minimum I've really started with, and quite often 4 or 5.

No, I never do an opt-in without a little PDF at the ready, myself (so I have to write that first). I feel I need that, to set people's expectations, secure my open-rate and serve all the purposes mentioned here: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post7642288

    Alexa, or others:

A related question - do you set up a Facebook page and/or Twitter account for every website you begin?

In my opinion every good blog or website must have a op tin form. You must have a quality auto responder in order to make list. This is the most important part of a blog apart from good design of course.

yes the lead capture page is the first thing I setup when going live with a website. If the sole focus is to generate sales collecting leads is vital.
