PROBLEM: Free Global Translator Plugin Is Creating Thousands of Error 404 Pages!!!

The free Global Translator plugin I'm using on 7 of my self-hosted WP sites is creating error 404 urls for every page that it translates. Everything seems fine to a visitor when they click on one of the little flags to translate a page into a different language...BUT...I can see these error urls when I log into my Google Account / Webmaster Tools...and one site alone shows over 2000 of these error urls!

Is anyone else using the Global Translator plugin? Have you logged into your Google Account lately to see if the same thing is happening?

Thanks
Steve

Are you using at least version 1.2.1 (released March 3) of the translator plug-in?

(1.2.1 changelog was 'hacked new Google URL structure')

Latest version of the plug-in is 1.2.2.1 (released April 4)

      Hi Paul,

I didn't have that version but just upgraded it to 1.2.2.1. Is that supposed to NOT create all those error urls? I just did a Google search for " global translator plugin creates error pages " (no quotes) and apparently that is a common problem with this plugin and no one seems to have a solution except to dump it.

I have been talking to Big Mike about his Incansoft Translator ( Incansoft Translator V3.0 | Quickly and seamlessly translate all of your web pages on the fly - fully automated with 11 languages ) and he told me he checked one of his sites in his Google account and had none of those errors. I'm going to dump Global Translator today and install his.

Does anyone know of a quick way to delete all those error pages that Global Translator created? The only way I know is to go into my Google Account and delete them one by one.

Google had changed their URL structure so the plug-in had to be updated:

WordPress › Support [Plugin: Global Translator] Bad translated content for url + Success(0)

        /edit

According to the changelog, the error code was changed from 404 to 503 in 1.0.9.1, but if Google had changed their URL structure after 1.0.9.1 then presumably the 503 would revert back to a 404 and thus cause the errors in the log... maybe, just a theory.

          Paul,

Unlike those on the WP forum (and thanks for posting that), the problem for me wasn't that the translator was not working because it seemed to be working fine when I clicked on a flag to translate. The problem I'm concerned about is all the thousands of error urls that the Global Translator is creating.

I installed the Global Translator last year on one of my sites and it was doing the same thing so I took it off and went through the laborious process of deleting those bad urls in my Google Account. Then many months later I installed it on a bunch of my sites thinking that maybe they had fixed the problem. Well, now I see it is doing the same thing again and will have to remove it.

Have you logged into your Google Account yet to see what havoc it is creating on your translated pages?

          Steve
