A week or so ago I started looking into publishing with Kindle, checked out a few reports in the war room and followed them. Luckily I already had a good ebook I made a few years ago (non-MMO niche, selling at ~$30 a copy). It's about 60 pages long.

Anyway, I took that book, went to Fiverr and bought a cover ($5) then bought a formatting service to put it in Kindle format (not even sure if this is necessary). The book is selling at $2.99 and I've sold around 60 copies so far, so not bad!

This is the cool part though: submitting my book to the Kindle marketplace has increased sales on my actual site since there are "supplements" to the book being sold there (i.e. software, other books, etc.)

I thought this was worth posting since I didn't expect this at all. The lesson? Include links back to your site and sell other stuff there related to your Kindle book, way more cash to be made! Anyone else experienced this?

You've discovered the power of being published on the Kindle! Yes, it definitely increases your sales of other "like" items, books, etc.

Here's a tip: Put your "About the Author" page near the front of your book and on that page, have links to your website, blog, other books/products, etc. People will often click the "Look Inside" to view the book before purchasing and if you have that page near the front of the book, people who don't even buy your book will see them and jump over to your website. It also help increase the chances of people buying your book

I got one sale (refunded) and one sale (no refund yet sold on 1/05/13) for a story (adult) I wrote last year. No promotional work just wrote it (frankly its pretty crap, and I could do better) and uploaded it, cover, etc. Just regular listing, no kdp, etc Still interested that people can find it and a couple have bought it, guess thats the power of Amazon. Hmm.. there may be potential here.. any adult kindlers out there?

EDIT: Just something else I forgot to mention that was a major stuffup on my part.. formatting was all wrong! I wrote the story like an essay! doh.. forgot correct formatting from high school days. So even though the content was good when folks were previewing.. most probably just probably took one look and navigated away without reading a word. Sorry Andy, didn't mean to steal your thunder. Great going.. hope I can get some awesome sales like you!

You are sitting on a potential goldmine there, and you are way ahead of most people (you have the book written, and uploaded.)

If it's 'pretty crap' and you 'could do better', then why aren't you? Spend some time correcting the formatting (it matters!) and doing rewrites until you get it how you want it. Then, when you start getting reviews, you will learn how to improve it further.

Once it is 'finished' you can then focus on promotion. You are more than halfway there, keep going!

I know a few marketers who price their books ultra low around 0.99 to 2.99 and they use them as lead generation tools to have buyers enter their sales funnel. A book is instant credibility!

    Good on you Andy!

It feels good to sell books on Kindle. This is an opportunity that is wide open and will remain so for a long time to come.

I agree with Paul Gram about putting your About the Author page at the front of the book. That way everybody who checks out your book can see your website.

    Well done!

It's a great way to help your list building. A 99 cent book that's in the giveaway program is a great loss leader to get people on your list. The fact that they let you link to your website/blog is super cool in my opinion.

You've hit the nail on the head...whenever I publish a book on Kindle, I also release a membership website or SOME sort of complimentary product to go along with it. Then at the end of the book, offer a massive discount on the other item being sold. Works great!
