I am going to make an amazon affiliate store targeting UK customers, the co.uk domain is taken so i'm thinking about putting UK in front of the name.

Example:

UkDiyStore.com

Bare in mind mine looks much better than this example but i'm wondering what effect it would have on ranking in google? If someone searched for "diy store uk" would UKDiyStore.com have a good chance of showing up up?

I'm thinking about making it a brandable domain. Or is this not the way to go.

Im no seo expert (but who really is) from what I have been taught you should be fine.

I do believe that it is best to have your keywords first and the extra at the end.

    Example:

    DiyStoreUK.com

I dont know about the branding part, but adding the letters in front has not hurt me. Just keep the keyword in the domain.
It has been floating around here in the forum that exact match domains or EMD's will hurt you. I don't know who started this crap. "I rank EMD's daily."
You will need to get someone else opinion on the branding part as I don't build large branded sites. Hope this helps.

No, doing this would not affect your ranking in Google. As long as you focus on delivering unique high quality content and build high quality backlinks, you should be fine.

Just make your domain name readable and easy to remember. that would be fine. as malcolm said, it wont affect your ranking in google.

If you have your keywords in the domain name and you build quality backlinks using your targeted anchor texts, your website would show up better than those with exact match domains that only rely upon their domain names for ranking. In fact, having your keywords in the domain name is not even a requirement for you to rank for your keywords, but it does help speed the process up. Brandable domains need not bother about exact keyword matches. Imagine you were going to setup a corporate website, as opposed to a quick money making platform, would you really bother about your keywords in the domain name?

The "UK" part will help your credibility and relevancy in the eyes of UK customers, but it won't necessarily help your search engine rankings in the UK as searchers in the UK would be unlikely to add "UK" or "in the UK" at the end of their search query; people will know there are DIY stores and wouldn't search UK-wide, rather they might add their locality to the search i.e. "DIY Stores in Chesterfield". Bear in mind that these searchers may be looking for a physical location in the first instance too.

However I do think you've got a brandable domain name based on your example if you add thee "UK" part at the end. I'm from the UK and I always go for a .com above a .co.uk if at all possible.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Niche_Boy,

Considerably, the domain name matters lot in terms of affiliate marketing and Search Engine Optimization. If you are going to register a new Domain then keep in mind that the domain name itself as a keyword matters that search engines consider while while calculating the raking of a site. If your domain name serve as a keyword and users searches that keyword on search engine then the ranking will automatically increase. Keeping the domain name short , easy to remember you can choose any.

Are you focusing on traffic from the UK or worldwide? If worldwide why not register ukdiystore.co.uk instead of ukdiystore.com?

If ranking worldwide the ukdiystore.com will have an advantage over diystore.co.uk anyway.

    Hope this makes sense

Keep in mind that Google is no longer giving preference to exact match domains just because of the domain name. You'll get your rankings from content and SEO, not your domain name.

Any name would do since search engines are now into quality content. DiyStoreUK.com is good btw.

  • I don't think that the actual domain name is going to make much difference one way or the other as far as rankings go, but if you're targeting the UK market it would be best to try and get a .co.uk extension. From a branding point of view you'd want to include 'DIY Store' or similar in the name, something that customers can easily remember.

I don't know why anyone bothers with Amazon.

I read a post here the other day where someone had made 24 sales - which equated to just over $100.

    That's like $4 a sale.

    Why bother?

    ...Is there something I'm missing?????

STOP*** bothering yourself about ranking in the Google search engine, and focus on the website
content, and how well you can build relationship with your readers.

And market your website using the old methods!

With the devluation of EMDs and partial EMDs, you might be better off searching for a brandable name that people can remember. ukdiystore isn't very memorable, IMO.
