Default Why Goal setting is important

Hello Warriors,

I used to laugh at people who told me goal setting was important and for years I pratted around and not acheive anything.

In 2002 things where bloody tough I made some big errors but I decided to write my goals down and well all I can say is thank god because I have acheived all but 1 of them todate.

I found this peice of paper blu tacked to my bedroom mirror and me and my family chuckled but there is a big lesson.

My goals where not massive but definiatley acheiveable

1) To Build a kit car Buggy
2) To Be out of debt
3) To go and travel the world
4) to be financially independant
5) To own a ferrari

These were my goals and all them have been achieved other than my Ferrari.... that was a little far fetched but it will still stay on the list.

Today I draw up some more goals which are a lot more out of reach but I think by the time I am 30 they will be done and at that age when they are achived I will be living a life of health wealth and happiness.

Goal setting has worked for me and it will work for you

Danny

Well, it is up to a person if he/she don't follow goal setting. If a person really is determined then he/she don't really need any goal setting just to be successful.

Your exactly right dude. And trhats the problem with so many folks today, they are just automated. They think they know what they want but in actual fact have no clue.

I became big on goal setting about 2 years ago and my life has drastically changed and is continuing to do so. About the end of 2008 i posted a thread about peoples goals for 2009 and made a little game out of it. Guess what? i had like 300 views and only like 19 repliues with people actually writing their goals in and submitting.

Its clear to me why most folk dont get anywhere in life. Its because they dont even take that first crucial step of sitting down and saying "I want to lose 10 kilos". But if these people actually look at other who are successful 100% of them are goal setters.

The simple definition of success is this: Achieveing a set goal or task within a certain period of time.

Simple really.

So of course people never get anywhere in life, how can you be a success without even setting the precedent for success?!

Anyway, while i sit here sipping my mineral water i congratulate those who set goals. And to the others who wift waft through their lives i say this.

Grab a pen and write 3 goals down, the first i will give to you. Finish writing your 3 goals within 24hrs.

There you go. You have completed a third of your first goal. Now finish the other 2 off. 1 of them should be a short term goal and the other a long term goal.

Cheers

Goal setting?

In the UK that is where two guys put their jackets on the ground 5 to 10 yards apart and then try to kick a ball between them.

It surprises me that the idea of chaining yourself to a 'goal' is a good thing. It isn't.

A goal is simply something to aim for but, if you keep aiming for it and keep missing, it ceases to be a goal, it becomes a huge burden.

This is another of these guru plattitudes that belongs with thinking positive and manifestation. Hasn't anybody reading these forums realised yet what a fluid world we live in? What can be a reasonable goal one day can turn into 'run-of-the-mill' the next as some new process is made available.

Technology advances at a tremendous rate, our personal beliefs and desires can change at a whim, our goals can be over-taken by reality and our goals can blind us to a tremendous opportunity because it does not fit in with our goal scoring strategy.

The greatest power on this Earth is serendipity. It is the one constant that lies behind so many successes. Chase a goal and serendipity can often be crushed in the blind-folded rush.

You might not like what I say - but I believe it.
Build it, make money, then build some more
Some old school smarts would help - and here's to Rob Toth for his help. Bloody good stuff, even the freebies!

My number 1 goal is to reach 1 million Euro .

I'm still far away from that number but hey, considering the money that I had a few years ago and the money that I have right now, well..... that's a pretty good improvement

Goal setting is always important because it gives you a purpose in your life and that's what keeps you going

A goal not written down is just a wish. Or something like that..

But seriously, I love this thread. When I want something accomplished and I know it's going to be hard work, I write it down! Sometimes I set specific sub-goals with a time limit, make sure they get done, and then move onto the next part of the project.

Works every time. Sorta.

I always have had long term and short term goals the short term goals are like stepping stones to the long term goals.

I never thought they worked at first but I have changed my mind completley

Its good that you change your mind...danny.

Why i set goal? Because I need target before I can hit.
My goals kept me on track and when I down, they gave me hope. They allowed me to see not where I was today but where I could be in the future.

Working without a goal is like driving with your eyes covered. If you don't have a goal, a purpose for all your hard work, it is much harder to achieve success because you basically don't know where you're going. Great post!

Way to go, Danny!

I forget where I read it, but I really like the idea that the purpose of a goal is simply to get you to feel good whenever you think about it. With this good feeling warming up your heart, loosening up your body and opening your mind to new ideas, you can then take more effective action.

As for the Ferrari, how about if you had an intermediate goal to get to be the one and only driver of a Ferrari for a while? This way, you only need enough money to lease it before you get to enjoy the result.

Art, I wonder if your post really applies more to plans than to goals. Isn't a goal a picture of the end result, combined with vivid imagination of how great it will feel? I can see how technology and circumstances could require a change of plans. But how would technology or circumstances devalue a picture and feeling of a desired outcome? I'm looking for clarification because your post stands out here as the only one that's not some form of "hooray for goals!"

Regards,
Allen

Danny, thanks for this thread -- goal setting (and keeping) has always been a challenge for me. I'm one of those pathetically disorganized minds, and am finding that being more focused is a major necessity.

I've recently started setting my goals down on paper, and trying to remember to go over them frequently. I can't say it's gotten me anywhere yet, but at least I have a better idea of where I'm going.

I wish you that Ferrari very soon!
