I've seen a lot of infographics lately and I've heard that they are good for viral marketing. Does anybody have any experience with these? I'd like to know the strategy for getting them to drive traffice and/or sales.

I tried it on Piktochart using the free option. Turned out pretty good. Got pinned, etc.

They're very good for Pinterest in some niches - especially workouts and blogging.

Hey Tiffany, I did use Piktochart before as well. In fact I was using the paid version and trust me all the themes are worth it. However, the problem with Piktochart is that we will have to plan the concept and content based on the available themes. We will not have the freedom of turning our imagination into reality using the tool. For starters, I would recommend Piktochart for sure. But if you want immense results, always go for a hand made design.

Yes, the traffic is good and the backlink from infographic sharing is great once the infographic viral.

Funny or shocking infographic get shared more easily.
But education ones do get shared by prominent websites.

Like what Tiffany suggest, it is easy to create an infographic through free online services.
After you create one , you can submit your infographic to websites which showcase the infographic

An updated list of website to submit I recommend is from : infographicsubmit.com

Thanks for the great tips! But I'm still not sure about the process.

I understand that if i make an infographic, i can put it on my website, share it on twitter, facebook, pinterest, social, etc and that will get me some clicks and traffic and maybe some viral sharing.

But how do i get other people to put it on their website and if they do, how can i make them link back to my site?

Create an embed code that people can use to share your infographic. Try and write a unique description for each blog hosting your infographic to add more value.

How to drive traffic and sales with infographics:

    1. Do the research with your target audience in mind - what they like, what they respond to? Your data should be not only interesting and surprising but also trigger some strong emotions such as joy or happiness.

    2. Design a visually appealing infographic - the one people post to their Facebook and Twitter and share by email. You don't want your infographic to look cheap, cheap, cheap like text converted to image with clipart illustrations.

    3. Get as much exposure with your infographic as possible. If you've done the the first two steps right - it's the easiest part. Sooner or later people will notice your infographic on one of the blogs or social networks or infographic directories - and you'll get hundreds of links, thousands of leads and followers.

As with anything, infographics are a tool and not a silver bullet.

You have to connect with your readers. If you understand their problems and can put their complaints, in their words on the infographic then show a solution, you have a good chance of connecting with your audience and getting your infographic shared.

  • Building on what @garmahis said, try to build a good infographic that not only is visually appealing but provides great info and have a balanced information flow- something like a sales/marketing funnel. Where you gradually comes to a conclusion/result/point.

If the infographic is good enough back links or traffic will come naturally.

I have created (and got created) many infographics for inBoundio, some of them turned out well like this, some of the one I made with piktochart didn't turned out that well.

From my experience, this is what I can suggest you

    1. Look at pinterest for best designs for infographics
    2. Hire a good designer as it is not worth going for cheap designer, the time you will invest in explaining him can be compensated by hiring a better experienced designer.
    3. The infographic need to have stickiness, otherwise it won't be shared on social media and will die immediately.
