Default Clickbank and Affiliate Link Cloaking Question

Hi,

I have started to promote some products to Clickbank and am using the affiliate link cloaker software called Samurai Stealth Cloaker. My question is on how exactly what address I should redirect the site to to get it to record the click thru on Clickbank's system. (Yes, I know Clickbank's tracking is not perfect, just want to make sure I am doing it right) In this case, the software first lets you put in the hop link code and then lets you forward it to another address.

Basically, it seems I have two choices:

1. http~://humorforwomen.com/?hop=0

or

2. http~://humorforwomen.com/

It seems sometimes when you click on the view pitch page it will show one or the other options. I basically want to see what difference it makes choosing one format over the other. My affiliate id is showing up on the clickbank sales pages so I would still think I would get the sale regardless. Just want to see what you guys think this means? Is this merely the tracking of sales that is sent to the vendor by clickbank showing them who made the sell. In this case, would we lose sales if we keep the ?hop=0 in there?

Please help if you can. This is really confusing to me.

Best,
JD

i dont know that particular cloaker, but isn't this in the doc?

I always use the classic MYID.VENDOR.hop.clickbank.net way to link to clickbank pages.
Clear your cookies (in the browser) and try whatever methods, and then see at the CB payment page whether your ID shows.

Hey George,

My clickbank id shows up on both of them on the clickbank sales page where the customer would put in their information. The cloaker works where you put in the affiliate link like you mentioned in one line and then on the other, it allows you to put in where you want the link to go; in this case, to the sales page.

My question is what difference does it make if the /?hop=0 code is not included. I think the 0 would normally become your affiliate id name or myid in your example in the regular way. I also know this information is sent to the vendor I was just wondering what happens if you leave in the 0 when your myid is something else and also what effect if you leave it out completely.

Hey JD,

Really it is just a matter of preference. I have the same software and I always go to a clean URL...

http~://humorforwomen.com/

That way people won't wonder what the extra characters are or delete them or another affiliate replace them with there own.

It just looks clean. It's just my opinion but I think it's easier for folks to see the clean link and move forward.

You'll always want to test and make sure your clickbank ID shows up on the order page.

As long as your ID is on the order page your good to go either way.

The real power of the software is to be able to bypass squeeze pages or go straight to the order page if you have a better sales or presell page.

But I love providing clean links to my customers too.

Good luck,

Derek

I just found this awesome easy to use free plugin for cloaking your links with Wordpress:

Blair Williams Pretty Link

The author seems intent on making it a great product. It works much better and is easier than GoCodes. I have replaced all of my .php redirects with this plugin today and I love it. It should also make site maintenance and swapping links or products much faster and more manageable.

Thanks for the help Stan. That is what I figured too. You also make a good point about by passing some products sales pages.
