Why is my website down?!

I sell a lot of domains, and I hear this a lot from people putting up new websites. In most cases, when you change the nameservers on your domain to point to your hosting service, it takes effect pretty quickly. In some cases, however, it can take up to 48 hours, or even longer on occasion.

In plain English, non-technical terms, the reason for the time lag is because domain data centers all over the world have to be updated with your new nameservers.

Here is one easy way to see what part of the globe your domain has propagated to:

Global DNS Propagation Checker - What's My DNS?

It will show you in seconds which geographic locations your website can currently be accessed.
