Facebook Ad Shenanigans?

Hey everyone...

I was wondering if anyone else has come across this sort of thing when purchasing Facebook ads...

Last week I ran a Facebook ad campaign for my recent Kindle Publishing book release. I set my budget for the campaign and then set it to run for just one day.

I'm a paranoid type of person, so I double checked to make sure that I had designated the ad to run for just for one day.

The ad ran...and ended.

Several days later I got a weird email from Facebook with more charges than I should have had...

I logged into my account, only to find that the ad had been running continuously for the last 2-3 days. When I checked the ad campaign, it was set to run daily till the end of February!

Now it's entirely possible that I clicked something somewhere to make that happen...but I don't think so...I was careful and double checked because I'm paranoid.

Has anyone else had that sort of thing happen to them?

I guess the moral of the story is to DELETE your ad campaign as soon as it ends!

I have had similar issues with other ppc engines but not with Facebook. I tend to delete those ads as you suggested as soon as a promotion is over. Stick to that.

I'm not sure Facebook ever did set any great standard of morality...

True, but as a publicly traded company in the spotlight, you don't expect them to engage in outright fraud...

Wow, so it's not just me...

Mine wasn't that much money....like $48 bucks...I mean it sucks but I'm not sure if there's much I can do about it.

That happened on my first facebook ad. I thought I had set a max budget. But then realized by default that facebook had the ad run for a couple weeks. So, it was my fault for not double checking everything.

From then on out, I have been sure to set my end date, and haven't run into the same problem.

That would be bad if Facebook were actually changing your ad settings themselves. I haven't had that problem yet.

Yeah I'm pretty sure I checked the max budget *and* the start/stop time and date....oh well, live and learn I guess. I guess I wouldn't mind so much if the ads had converted better! :-p

Could be a glitch, they have so many millions users on at any given time, that the script may have not registered the stop.

I'm sort of willing to accept it may have been a glitch...but I'm definitely going to keep my eyes open from now on, and I suggest everyone else should too!

That happened to me too. And then the other thing with facebook that's sneaky if they can't bill you right away (ie your credit card expired or something like that), they wait until you put in a valid credit card or pay pal and then get you for those ad charges, even a couple years later.

Happened to me with Adwords once. I woke up to find an adwords bill for over $800 on a campaign I knew for sure I had stopped. I contacted them though and they got rid of the bill.

Yikes! Yeah I definitely would have raised a ruckus over $800! I suppose I could contact FB, but for $40 it's not hardly worth my time...
