My tip for newbies just starting out...

If there was one major tip that I would have for the newbies just now starting out in internet marketing, it would be to focus on building a list. Building a list is the most important thing you can do to be successful online and create passive income.

Building a list will allow you to get repeat visitors and market to the same people over and over again.

Don't look for the short term quick cash method. Instead focus on building a long term sustainable business that creates massive value to all of your visitors and customers.

If you can do that, then you will begin to find it easy to make money online. Making money online will stop being hard and will start becoming predictable.

Don't try to reinvent the wheel. Instead focus on doing what works.

I definitely agree. What works is tried and tested, so why deviate from it? Just add in some tweaks to perfect the system, and that's it!

Malcolm, you're the man! That's absolutely correct. At first building a list itself is quite a task but once you get that down you're over the hump

Exactly. Building a list does take some getting used to but... once you get over the initial hump you will begin to make REAL consistent money on a regular basis. By building a powerful relationship with your list they will begin to trust you and purchase the products that you recommend.

GREAT advise, i have to say, i hate when i see all these over night million making ventures, when most newbies hardly know about the basics of internet marketing.

Take your time to learn a foundation that you will build "a long term sustainable business "

If more people will invest in themselfs and learning how to earn, instead of the get rich in a day plans, the end result will be success on so many levels.

Exactly. Short term get rich schemes usually never last for long and the time spent trying to game google or exploit loopholes is much better spent building a list, creating high quality content, etc.

Offer something of value to your website visitors and let them enter their email address. Once you have their email address, you will be able to market to them over and over again. It's a fact that MOST people never buy on their first visit.

First make sure that your website is filled with high quality content. Then perform forum marketing, blog commenting, SEO to get immediate traffic to your blog. Keep posting unique high quality content on a regular basis and you will begin to see results. Consistency is what gets you results.

I agree Malcolm. The problem is like the questions, most people don't know what to do. They have the list, and an opt-in form, but don't know how to get the prospects into the list, or to make money out of it.

The simplest way to get traffic to your list, and to opt-in is through a free offer. People love stuff for free, and if they find it useful, you can bet they will be looking out for you, and any products that you tell them would be useful.

I think the big thing to understand is that there's no shortcuts, no push a button and you win the jackpot. You have to work at it, to get continued success. Be consistent, and do the right things, or learn from the wrong ones, and you will get success.

But I do vote for the list being at no. 1 spot.

You're right, there is no shortcut to success. You must force yourself to take consistent action in order to build a successful long term business.

For me getting a mentor was the best thing I did! I was lost jumping from one thing to another not knowing what direction to go in.Thinking I knew what I was doing and knowing what I was doing were two different things? I still make mistakes but I have someone to talk it through with and learn!

My tip would be, DON'T QUIT YOUR DAY JOB until you can replace your income, and make sure that the money is coming from different avenues in case one goes down.

This. I see so many newbies just quit their day jobs when they have no replaceable income and that is one of the absolute worst things you can possibly do. Keep working at your day job until you make a large enough income to replace your day job income.

It's a shame, because many "gurus" give people some B.S story on how they quit their 100k a year day job, and started their online business while living in the back seat of their car

It misleads alot of people into thinking that they can quit their job and make a living online by buying their $47 product...

For years no body told me that you should build a list. About 4-5 years down I built my blog without a list. Now I just think how many people I could have in my list I only built a list.

But I am now building a list for my business + taking care of it.

I think another helpful tip would be: Choose a business model and stick with it. Do not try to do many different things - it is like filling up different glasses with water... at the end, every glass contains little water but no glass is really full. We tend to look for the instant road to riches so we keep on jumping from one method to another. but, we can only get the success that we want to achieve if we only focus on one thing. Branching out to different business models must only be done once we have gained momentum and achieved success to a certain business model.
