Niche selection advice

Hi this is my first post on the forum...

I'm at the very beginning of my foray into internet marketing and am still deciding a niche market to write a blog about. I'm following the advice of pretty much everyone by choosing a market that i'm passionate about, which is a niche within the travel market. I'm positive that with my passion i could create good value in my content, however i'm concerned that i cannot find any decent affiliate products that relate to this niche... I'm worried that i'll spend a lot of time create content and driving traffic towards my blog, only to find it challenging to monetize a few months down the line.

I'm also currently a member of my target audience (which again seems to be universally recommended) and i'm struggling even to convince myself that the affiliate products i've found have any real value, so i'm not too confident about selling to my readers?

Does the fact that there are no good affiliate products a good sign, leaving a gap in the market to create my own? Or is this a red flag that there is no money to be made?!

Should i just scrap this niche and go back to the drawing board? I'm struggling to think of any monetization strategies that would suit this blog

Cheers,
Tim

    Wow truely your first post.

Well let me be the first or by the time I finish this maybe the 3,4,5,6 or 7th to welcome you.

Here is a link to a post that I made recently concerning Niche Selection. I think the proper Niche is the most important decision that you will make in your journey.

    Good Luck

You don't need niche selection advice. You need to create a couple imaginary ideal customer profiles that fit your target markets, create the content they want that leads them to opt-in to keep updated, or to get a unique guide or gizmo, , and then market to them either through email or by monetizing your site.

I appreciate your question, Timothy, as I was just about to ask the same. My interests are different (space/art/stained glass) but I suspect we are in the same boat - there aren't obvious affiliate products out there in bucket loads, but there is potential if we are willing to do the research and develop products based on the imaginary ideal customer's emotional needs related to the niche. Good luck! I'm also here to learn, so thanks for jumping in with that question.

If you need further advice on niche market selection, I suggest you first work out on your selection of keywords and key phrases, assess the competition, and from there you'll know if it's worth pursuing.
