5 page wordpress site design for $99?

For a simple site like this one, Aven Properties | Home, is $99 a fair price to pay for website design? I'm talking about someone creating a website exactly like that one except with different content. The purchaser provides the pictures for the front page as well as the site logo up top, and any content they want on the site. Custom contact forms are available. Any pages in addition to the 5 that are included are $10 each. The site is made on wordpress. Purchaser is required to buy their own domain name and hosting.

Is $99 a fair price for that service?

You don't want hosting commissions? They're quite a bit of money, I think?

You could offer a decent discount to people who buy Hostgator hosting through your affiliate link, or whatever?

    Just a suggestion ...

      Indeed!

I have seen many people charge $0 and all they ask is that you sign up through bluehost or host gator using their affiliate link to set up the website.

I believe if someone signs up through bluehost 3 year plan you get $60 which is pretty good.

Definitely something you should think about doing Matt011 because you would be leaving a ton of money on the table

But answering your question, that does seem like a fair price

Great advice, thanks! I didn't realize that was an option. I'll have to look into that.

That is assuming, of course, that it is me who will be offering this service... I can't say if it is or not, because when I posted a thread a week or so ago to try to figure out a good price to charge for a service on this forum, I got a warning on my account. Apparently someone thought I was trying to circumvent paying for an ad in the WFH section. (I wasn't. I was just trying to see if there was a demand for the service.)

Back to the issue at hand: is $99 a fair price for that service?

Well it depends really, on a couple things...

First being WHO you speak with. A lot of developers charge $40+ an hour, so no matter how "simple" the site is, you're still looking at over $99.

Second is, there are obviously forms in there (which may be done with plugins, but may not) so this is a programming issue. They may need to customize your plugin, or even build you one.

I'd say $100 would probably be more of a Special Offer you'd find here, rather than the actual rate for most developers. Then again you can find a ton of outsourced freelancers (in other countries) that will do your work for pretty cheap. For example, most Philippine workers charge something like 10,000 - 30,000 INR a month, which exchanges into about 300-600 USD a month.

So if you planned on having multiple sites and properties going on, this ultimately would be a great choice.

you don't want hosting commissions? They're quite a bit of money, I think?
They typically ARE quite a bit of money, and I don't know who wouldn't want to utilize that program if they had the opportunity.

I'd say you are seriously under estimating your worth wanting to offer a site for such a small amount of money. You have to take into account the time it takes to get paying clients as well as the time it takes you to set up the site, which I know isn't long.

But man, that's just way too little.

I guess if you already have the theme developed and are just reselling it and loading content, it isn't a bad price.

I would definitely include hosting and domain registration for recurring commissions or at least affiliate links.

It will still take some time to set it up, and $99 might be a little light. Test different price points.

I did the "set up a site for a hosting commission" gig, but it's a lot of work. The problem is that people who know nothing about WordPress or whatever platform you use, expect a lot more than you can reasonably provide. Generally, many people want this and that customized even if your sales page is very clear that it's strictly an installation and WP theme set up service with 5 pages.

Moreover, you will email back and forth a ton, especially dealing with images. You'll get images in pdf, wrong sizes, etc.

I'm not saying it's a bad model. I tried it and hired someone to do the work, but it was still a lot of my getting involved.

I may pursue it again if I can figure out a way to streamline the process by getting a knowledgeable project manager involved for client communications so I can focus on marketing the service.

Think it through. If you have a different focus but are doing this for easy/quick cash, think again. It can be good money, but it requires a real commitment of your time unless you can afford to hire a capable manager, in which case you need a ton of clients.

One other consideration is viewing the "commission-only" or low cost model as a way to offer recurring services such as SEO, email marketing, content, etc. I never did this because without a project manager I didn't want to escalate the service angle because I focus on other business models. However, if your endgame is to offer additional services, it's an easy sell if you deliver a great site for them at low cost. I had many people who wanted to hire me to do all kinds of additional work and people paid for consultations on web marketing.

    Great information, thanks everyone!

The hosting commissions through hostgator will get me an extra $50+ per site (non-recurring), and I can get 15% of each domain name purchase through namecheap. I had no idea that these programs existed, so thank you to those who told me about them!

I do believe that I have all I need now to write my sales page in the warriors for hire section. Thank you all!

Also consider buying a reseller hosting plan to put your clients on. This way you can get reoccurring revenue instead of the one time commission. $60 one time commission versus $60 every year (or whatever you decide to charge for the hosting end).

$99 is pretty cheap. That includes the articles as well? I would pay that if I didn't know anything about WordPress. I can set up a site from domain purchase, hosting, theme, plugins and 3 articles in about an hour. So for me I would do it myself. But people sell WordPress sites for up to $1000. Seems like a good deal to me.

I don't think it's a good price. You get get a customized wordpress design from Wordpress Website Design, Wordpress Web Development, Wordpress Design and Devlopment for only $175. Yes, it's $76 more... but it's actually developed. What you showed above looks like a blank template to me. You can get those for free.
