How to Find a SOLID Mentor... 101

No, this isn't a WSO, and it certainly isn't a guide.

It's a question I humbly got for y'all on the Warrior Forum: How would I go about finding a solid mentor to help me with focus, strategy, and implementation?

NOTE: This isn't a thread ASKING for a mentor to fall in my lap - I've been in this game long enough to know that very little falls in your lap. I'm asking what steps I need to take in order find a good mentor without coming off as needy/noobish.

A little background: I've got just over a year of experience in affiliate marketing. I've made close to $2000 thus far. I'm not a total "n00b" - I know my way around Wordpress, link-cloaking, domains/hosting, web-design, Aweber, proxies (just started messing with Craigslist), blackhat SEO, and I'm trying to fill my head with as much info about copywriting as possible (halfway through Ca$hvertising). I'm a member of around 6 or so affiliate networks, and numerous in-house programs.

So I'm leaning towards intermediate knowledge. I've also been in the game long enough to NOT trust Gurus, and 90% of any eBook. Nothing in this game is as simple as "FIND OUT HOW I MADE $302305492359.094 in TWO WEEKS WITH THIS ONE SIMPLE METHOD."

But I digress. Anyway, any of you SUCCESSFUL marketers have advice or stories on how you found a mentor that helped you a lot? Did you just post in forums asking for a mentor? Did you personally PM individuals you respected/looked up to?

I'm just looking for someone who can help me use what little time I have to the fullest + someone I can bounce ideas off of who'll give me honest feedback.

Thanks!
-B

Hang around here for awhile, read a lot, figure out who is full of crap and who is not, start interacting with the ones you decide you like who really know the kind of stuff that you want to learn, then tell them you would like to learn their system and ask if they are willing to teach you.

Have you done this approach? Thanks.

Not exactly, but the few people I've learned the most from here are the ones I developed relationships and a level of trust with. Hindsight being 20/20, this is how I would do it if I were doing it over. My progress would have been much faster.

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

I moved 950km to find James Schramko. I moved from Brisbane to Sydney. It sounds crazy I know, but I just knew that anyone making close to $10M a year was worth it.

Once I arrived here, it all began falling into place.

TIP - Don't be afraid to spend money with someone who can truly help you.

If you really want to do well online then I am going to recommend 3 guys that can help you a whole lot.

I am sure that some people here on this forum will cross their arms and raise their eyebrows at this recommendation but they really can help you.

I am doing this not to get any affiliate sales whatsoever. I believe with my heart that they will help you in many ways to breakthrough online with your own online business.

    Dave Wood
    Dave Sharpe
    Stone Evans

    3 amazing individuals.

And thanks to everyone else that gave me some pointers! I guess I'll just have to start hanging around forums more than I already do. Hahaha.

And BTW, to the guy that moved to find your mentor: Mad props. That's commitment right there.

    Hey man,

Finding a mentor is probably the most beneficial thing you can do, and yeah you definitely shouldn't trust anyone who promises you to make a ton of money in a couple days...

Any real coach knows that it takes a lot of hard work to build a business and they will tell you straight up if they actually do mentor successful people.

The best thing you can do is research into some of the coach's past clients and the success they have. If they have a bunch of successful students then it means they deliver high quality info.

And about Dave Wood I don't think he would be the best mentor if you're looking for someone who's reachable because he owns Empower Network so he probably doesn't deal too much with any of his students (just a thought).

Yeah, I'm not looking for a HUGE mentor either. The Empower Network is pretty big.

Although, I got to be honest: looking around the Warrior Forum more deeply makes me suspicious of a lot of seemingly "knowledgeable" individuals. A lot of cheap WSO's floating around... like if people were really making as much as they claimed to, why sell a cheap WSO? I almost feel like it's an endless circle-jerk of marketers selling to marketers. Blind leading the blind.

F*ck it. I'mma just figure this out myself. Thanks for the suggestions still, everyone. Maybe once I figure out some solid methods, I'll share some here without insulting anyone's intelligence with over-hyped guru copy, played-out CD/Packaging graphics, or sneaky signature marketing. For free.

Search for coaching WSOs and go through feedback in the thread. Ask those who may joined the coaching by sending them a PM. Look at the sales page and if the claims made in the sales pitch seem too good to be true, it usually is :-).

I don't know how much of a "mentor" I could be as I have very little time on my hands myself.

I've spent the last 8 months researching internet marketing and strategies and just really began to implement the strategies just 2 wks ago.

I just joined this forum less than 30 mins ago so I'm not sure how active I will be yet. But feel free to add me on Facebook (I'll send you a message)

If help with marketing strategies is what you are looking for I can give you access to FREE Facebook and Twitter training webinars.

Also, I can possibly help you with your affiliate efforts. If I can show you a way to make 100% PURE Profits off every affiliate sale you make all in one simple system, would you be interested in learning more information? And just so you know...its not the Empower Network system
