I recently posted about my categories not working. I got the following advice:

"Set your permalinks under setting /%category%/%postname%/"

I immediately felt stupid because I had not thought to check my permalinks.

I used "Custom Structure", entered /%postname%/ (because I don't want the category to appear in my link) and saved.

After saving, it jumped back up to the line above which leaves out the % and clicking on the post under categories doesn't go there.

Does that mean that I have to include category in my link to get this to work?

I'm pretty sure newer versions of Wordpress have /%postname%/ as a permalink option in permalink settings.

Make sure your wordpress installation has enough permission to set/modify htaccess file. Message me and I can take care of it for you, or at least point you in the right direction.

Looks to me like it's set. I'm clicking all over the place and finding your posts just fine.

It shows category slug, which is a no-no for her.

You should check out related plugins that remove category slugs, something like: Top Level Categories (Fortes)

I don't think I have explained myself well.

In the past, I thought that the permalink setting only had an effect on the URL. I thought that the Category list was controlled by what I entered in that section on the post (and could be verified by the listing in "All Posts" under "Categories".

Now that doesn't appear to be true. I don't guess I understand what the Permalink has to do with the Category List inserted by that widget. Was this a change in this update?

I would be ok with the Category being in the URL. The only reason I didn't want it there was it just makes the URL that much longer.

Having the category in your URL is not such a bad idea if your titles are usually so obscure that Google can't tell what keyword to pair it up with.
