How long does Google remember your deleted content?

I deleted my 2 blogger blogs and downloaded all my posts over a week ago. How long does it take for Google to forget about them? Today they still show up in searches, although, when I click it says "blog deleted".

I was planning to create a new site with my own domain and hosting and use the same posts I had on those old blogger blogs, just optimize them a little better. Since my topic doesn't age in time, I don't see a point in writing all new articles and posts, there are hundreds of them. Or will it be a problem?

It can be a few days or couple weeks but most of the time couple days. But I'm going to be honest it would be better for you to re-write your posting as google is very strict on copy same content even if you do change up a little that may not be good enough in google eyes so I would rewrite and then do some new posting as this will gurantee traffic and also but be helpful for revisitors to know your new site.

But if it's not indexed in Google anymore, will they know it is the same content?

No; and it wouldn't matter if they did, anyway, because even then it would be "syndicated content", not "duplicate content". This isn't worth worrying about. There's absolutely no need to re-write your content!

  • Not sure how long, but you can delete them from google's cache. Instructions here "Remove a page or site from Google's search results"

The way I understand it, and logically the way it SHOULD work is the following....

    1. Google visits your site, and stores the information in what THEY call a cache.
    2. If it changed, is new, or they changed their algorithm, they reprocess that cache. All decisions are made based on THAT to some degree.
    3. When a person searches, general searches are done based on indexes derived from that cache. If it gets too detailed, it goes to the cache to refine results.
    4. If they click on a page, outside of the cache, it may then note it has been deleted.

So the cache SHOULD be wiped out when it revisits your page, and gets a 200(success as I recall) or 400(permanently changed, as I recall) code. If it gets a 500(server error), it will retry later. If it gets a 300(temporarily changed), it may ignore it.

It should be noted that some sites DO keep a history.
