Linkshare wants my ss#, should I join this network?

I'm a little uncomfortable giving out my Social security number in an online form. I have a DBA as a sole-proprietorship and have an Employer identification number, but they still want my social on linkshare. Anyone have some info for me about this network and others, who should I use and not use???

I don't blame you, you should never feel ok with giving out you S.S.N, you EIN should be enough.

Your EIN should normally never be enough, but it isn't abnormal at all for them to ask for your SSN if you don't have an EIN.

I would advise you not to give it to them, if your EIN number is not good enough Move On.. It has the same regulations and IRS Authority as a SS... Simply ridiculous for them to ask for that..

This is not financial or legal advice. This is just my personal opinion.

They may just be confused on what to ask for. I just looked at their join form. If you select sole proprietorship, they should be asking for EITHER your employer identification number or social security number depending on how you file your tax return. I would just enter my EIN where it says social security #.

Shoot them a quick email and see if this is what they really intended. Some companies don't realize some sole proprietorships use an EIN instead of a SS#.

If they aren't paying you, they have NO RIGHT TO ASK, PERIOD! If they are paying your business, and you have an EIN, they have NO business asking for your SSN. Just give them the EIN.

Linkshare is a legitimate affiliate network. There should be no problem by giving your SS to them.

But if you feel uncomfortable with this, there are a lot more affiliate networks for your choice.
