I made my first site. Easy enough to make pages and other simple things.

I am having issues with themes and changing the header font.

For a good theme will I have to pay premium money? I tried a free one and it had the vendors name all over it. I'm guessing that's pretty common with free themes.

I tried a couple of plug ins to change the fonts...they weren't user friendly enough for me.

How do I put my opt in information from aweber into the site?

Use the html widget and paste the code in there.

Use Html site, fully customizable, You can download softwares like coffeecup to edit and design it without giving a penny to the website designers.

If you confuse and want to search for easy tutorial, why don't you search in Youtube like I did? There is a lot of useful tutorial about wordpress (and many more).

Thanks for the tip...the problem I have with you tube is having to go through videos from older versions that just confused me so I thought I would ask here.

Could you recommend a specific channel?

unfortunately I don't have specific channel. I continue to search until I found what I need
And, joining a FB Group that discuss about wordpress might also help. Here I found friends that helpful and have same language

None of your specific questions are related to older or newer WP versions.

For modifying fonts > you need to know CSS, not WP.
For being able to put a form... I would say you may need basic HTML. And most likely, well-developed copy/paste skills.

And yes, you are not the first one falling into this trap: because it is so easy to install and use WP... all the novice users expect the customization to be as easy as well.
    Bad news: it isn't!

It was a trap for sure....I've been playing around with CSS. Thanks!

Yes, they normally do that for free themes. Some have more links while others have less. Find a good list here for you to choose from. Best Free Premium Wordpress Themes | CashJournals of DylanC

For putting Aweber form on your site, should be use the <script> and put it into html mode instead of visual editor? Or you put it into the sidebar widget under 'Text' box.

You can build fairly good looking themes using a program called Artisteer. You can also change font styles etc

Wont ever be as good as building a theme from scratch, but its very easy for a novice to make something half decent.

Some of the premium themes allow and actually encourage you to change almost everything including the fonts in the header, footer, body, etc... and you don't have to mess with the CSS code. One of such themes is Thesis.

I have two suggestions to people new to Wordpress:

    - The "Digging Into WordPress" book is amazing. You must have the desire to dedicate a ton of time to learning the ins-and-outs of Wordpress. If you just want a working knowledge of WP, then this will be too in-depth.

    - StudioPress themes. They have the best support community. I bought their Pro package that includes all themes including future themes too, but you may only want to buy the themes one at a time if you are trying to avoid a big up-front investment.

Before StudioPress, I used a free theme called Arras, it was a good looking theme, but I trusted StudioPress more for their SEO focus, and their Mobile Responsive design (Fancy term for "their themes look good on all screen sizes including phones and tablets").

    Hope this helps :-).

Yes, you should pay for the better theme unfortunately.. and usually there's a tutorial video on how to use and modify the themes for the premium one

Why don't you watch the tutorial video on aweber? I believed they put it there.. Just watch the video and try it on your own.. It's not that difficult

I am looking at premium themes now...it was fun to play around on CSS and I'm sure some can churn out killer sites, but I lack the basic skills to do so.

Time vs money...money usually wins with me.

      Thanks everyone for the help!

Tried to install and got this message...

        "Unpacking the package...
        Installing the theme...
The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet.
        Theme install failed."

I sent a message to the vendor...anybody know if I can correct it or if it's an issue with the vendor...

Wordpress, at minimum, requires a style.css file to be present for a theme to install. Sounds like the theme file you tried to upload is at fault, unless you were uploading incorrectly (which I wouldn't imagine).

You will have to pay for a configurable theme, or learn php.

Free theme will almost always have a link back to the vendor - they need to get something out of the work they did for you to have the free theme...

Whilst you're playing about, I'd stick with a free one - you might want a nice graphical header, and if you do get one done, they're usually very easy to put into any theme - usually part of the options.

Remember that this is what your visitors look at, and first impression count. If it's free, or look nasty, people will hit the back button...

    Good luck!
