Is IM your backup plan?

Can't help but ask you guys.
I know a lot of people here are doing this for a living.
I want to do this as a living but for only a period of time and that's if ever I get successful with IM.
I'm planning on going to law school and I can either take a job while I'm at it, or just stay at home and do IM and have a lot more time to study for myself.
That's how I motivate myself whenever I think that scenario.
How about you here guys?

IM is my ONLY plan right now. Just left my job after four years in November. Going at it full force now.

IM is my bread and butter as well. I was let go from my job of 2 years last summer and have been full time ever since.

I would say take a job to raise money for IM while you're in law school so you can at least fund your IM ventures. Might be difficult to balance all 3 things at once, but at least you'll have income in the meantime.

It would be a shame to consider IM anything less than full time in my case. It's feeding me well.

I feel that you should evaluate the number of hours that you plan on working, then decide which is better. And if law is your chosen profession, an internship, even if it pays less, might be a better choice. A job waiting tables at an upscale joint where high power attorneys hang out might also be a better choice. Choose wisely with your end goal in mind.

I manage a used bookstore and have lots of time to work on the internet. I still haven't made my first sale (besides ebay) but I'm going to keep trying!

I have been selling online as my only business for over 14 years. I finally got tired of being laid off at web development and computer companies that only seemed to be able to stay in business for a year or two. No one can lay me off when I work for myself.

I think running a business as a backup plan would be hard.

Whatever it is that you want to be successful in, focus on that, and concentrate all your energy into it.

It takes a lot of hard work to become successful at anything...

I'm hoping IM will finance bigger dreams.

I don't see IM as a long term career. I'm a little paranoid about the day where we start having powercuts because we've burned up all the fossil fuels, and electricity will be rationed. What will happen to the internet then? My connection is dodgy enough at the best of times as it is.

I want something tangible that I can hand down to my kids.

Hey, forgot law school. Why work for some one and lose your freedom . Put yourself in a position where people work for you !

I left my job years ago, to concentrate on this. IM requires full commitment and once you realize the potential you can leave the rat race

IM is THE plan and there are no backups anymore. I sometimes worry but then again we have diversified so much that I think we are pretty safe relying on IM alone.

It's a much better plan than a fulltime job with no guarantees. These days even stable careers like teachers, police officers and military have no guarantees and none of the 9-5 guys I know have any backup plans so I think I am better off than most in this economy.

This is my plan A and has been for the last 6 years, it has also been my only source of income for the last 6 years, Well besides investments I made with my IM money.

To me IM has been a very valuable skill to learn, and I have used to it build many businesses, I'm actually using it to build a large travel business .

I'm doing IM to live a life of freedom. To be my own boss and do what I want, when I want. That's why I'm doing IM.
