"Generic, Descriptive" or "Unique, Brandable" for a Biz Name?

Warriors . . . come out to plaaaayyyyaaaaa . . .

I've read different ideas on how you should name your business.

One idea is to choose a generic, descriptive, personal or geographic business name that has your product or service keyword in it. "Boring names produce boring companies" I remember reading. Examples for marketing would be "Local Marketing Group" or "Denver Mobile Marketing" or "Anderson Online Marketing".

The other is to have a unique, memorable and brandable name, that may or may not relate to your pdt or svc. Examples would be "The Marketing Mob", "On Your Mark", "Marketel" or "DenMark".

Maybe there is a combination of the two methods. Which way is the best, in your opinion?

I believe in direct marketing. Use the name that self-explain your products. My website, www.masterimsolutions.com self-explain itself as a solution provider to IM matters.

I think that for niche products you have to be careful. Because it can have a negative impact.

My first website is The Broke Affiliate | You Can Make Money Online!!

What my thought was behind the name was... hey.. most affiliates are broke, most don't make money online.... so they could connect with the url.. But I think that people are turned off by the url.

Now if I had only chosen a better URL or something like that I would probably have much better results.

Maybe I could transform my website to a "Rich Jerk" type site LOL.

    Thanks!
