I have been away for a week and a half. Just come home to an inbox full of trackback notices.

First question is: what is a trackback?

Second question is: Should they be approved?

Thanks in advance

A trackback is generally a notice of someone linking to your content. A new backlink. So it's really good if it's from a decent source!

Trackbacks are excellent, they tell you that someone has linked back to your post.

I personally switched them off, because I was getting a whole bunch of spammy ones, being used a little like comment spam.

No, I think it's safer to assume that it is not.

You can click on the link that is supposed to link to your post, and see what it is. If you can't find a link to your page, which I would expect would be likely, then it's SPAM. That's why I switched them off.

I have a plugin for comments - Antispam Bee I think it's called, in case you need one. That works an absolute treat. I can't remember if it helps with trackbacks - I think it recommends turning them off, but it's a while since I've been into the settings, because it's that good.
