Hostgator here and so far so good. No downtime, powerful upload speed, indexing is good... so, good deal for 55 bucks per year.

Step off the beaten path and go with my recommendation: Web Site Hosting, Shared and Dedicated Servers - WEBCS.com

I am not an affiliate and have no financial connection whatsoever. I'm just a happy customer.

They cost a few bucks more than some of the real cheapos but you get what you pay for: namely, customer service you won't find anywhere else. These people are experts and provide support themselves and they'll go a mile for you.

Before I found webcs I checked with a dozen or so big-name hosts through their live online support. This is a pretty standard feature nowadays. Guess what? Several of these companies had the same guy on the support line! Dominiskij or something like that... meaning a call center in some far off country.

How can the same guy juggle customer support for three or four big companies. No wonder they keep you waiting 5 minutes between each response! And no wonder they're so cheap.

This isn't xenophobia or some kind of prejudice. I just prefer to have support in my native language and from people onsite who know their equipment and service packages. It really makes a difference.

I've been using Hostmonster for more than 2 years now, and have had no problems and good support on installing some custom scripts. They have plenty of free features as well. I was a Hostgator reseller for a while and they were pretty good as well, but Hostmonster gave me more bang for my buck for my own sites.

    HostGator is awesome.

coupon code JURY gets you the first month for a penny.

Great tech support by 24/7 by phone... and when it's 3am and you don't want to wake the kids- excellent chat support.

Oh, and a really great affiliate program as well. $50 a pop for every new account.

If you do not plan to use scripts that use a lot of system resources, hostgator is my first choice.
(they have terminated several of my sites in the past on which I used rss2blog and other scripts).

If you are planning to run scripts: bluhost
If you are planning to run scripts a lot I recommend getting a VPS at galaxyvisions.com

    HostingZoom.com are good.

ICDSoft.com have the best support and technical infrastructure you'll ever find in an "end-user" hosting provider. They can host only one domain/site per account though. But if you're after reliability - they're definitely the best.

Yes, they close your site down for over band width usage. Also, because I live outside the States I had to call in and confirm everything when signing up. (Hassel) But their service is good.

I also use 123japanhost.com which is my local hosting site and they back up the unlimited usage.........pretty good. 3 years with them so far and many sites hosted. That isn't an affiliate link as far as I know but information is listed on the site.

Depends what sort of site you would want to host.
If its static html or a blog that will be getting 500-1500 visitors a day, then I recommend bluehost, they are great for that sort of blogs. They have good support I reckon compared to few others.

I also have some sites with GoDaddy but the GoDaddy user interface is very confusing, I have not completely understood it even after 3 years!

    Wow.

I use HostGator, but I also use PowWeb. I like both because they offer 24/7 support (VERY important to me and should be to you, too!) by phone AND live chat.

I like HostGator because they're VERY reliable as far as speed AND uptime go, but I like PowWeb because for the same price (or less) you can host UNLIMITED number of domains.

I'll join the list of happy HostGator customers. No problems so far and excellent customer service from them.

I do also have a GoDaddy hosting account from ages ago.... however, I don't recommend them. Their hosting rejects just about any script you can imagine, and their customer service is slow and not very polite.

I am using "Dreamhost" quite a some time now. It is bit different from other web hosting providers but thus far the service is seemed to be pretty good. There is no cpanel to use in the dreamhost. So anyone is going to host their site in dreamhost then he has to get used to the webpanel provided by them. There is not much worry about it.

It's hard to argue against the legions of satisfied Host Gator users! I seem to recall seeing in a recent newsletter that they will be offering VPS soon. If their prices are as reasonable and support as consistent there is no doubt this will be a great alternative for those who don't want or can't afford a dedicated server.

I was with kiosk.ws but left them before they fully moved to their new data center in San Antonio, Texas. At the time they didn't allow private nameservers which were no problem at Host Gator with my reseller accccount.

If you want a full arsenal of tools and a MLM opportunity watch for kiosks relaunch as gvocom.com I still maintain an account with their easyvideoproducer.com and I feel they may be a company you want to explore.
