Get Rid of Neg Review on Amazon?

I got a one star review from someone that did so for the following reason:

"I do not enjoy having biblical quotations shoved down my throat while trying to relax & escape into a world of fantasy & total "wind down"!If I want this I can easily read a bible!"

I have no problem with a negative review but when it is clear they did not even read the description of the book, it does not seem right. The description explains clearly what the book is about yet this person gave a one star because it "is not fantasy."

Can I go to Amazon to fight this? Anyone have expereince with this?

You won't have it taken down. However don't sweat it; people do read reviews seriously and when they read that specific one from your book all they will think is that that person wasn't one who was bound to enjoy the book anyway.

Focus on getting the "right" people to post reviews, not clowns who are happy to give 1 star reviews based on their misinformed decisions.

I think it is an awesome review for you.

People look into good and bad reviews. Stupid bad reviews help you, because those who are looking for a reason not to buy realize there are none.

This. I'm always a bit wary of anything that has only 4 and 5 star reviews dripping with praise. Even mega-sellers like Tom Clancy, Stephen King and JK Rowling have their critics.

If 1 or 2 start reviews are available, I always read them. If they're of the type you mentioned, I discount them under the guise of 'you can't fix stupid'. Along the way, I'm also likely to scan more of the positive reviews as well.

      This.

A lot of people (myself included) make a point of reading the 1* reviews to see whether or not the "reason" is relevant to them. Given your content, that's going to do you much more good than harm.

Rely on the fact that your customers will understand that that was a stupid person who shouldn't have been reading it in the first place, and don't worry about it. And I'm saying that having recently looked at all your books, reviews, and so on, myself, as it happens. (You won't get Amazon to change/remove it, anyway, I think. And probably rightly, really?).

      Sandra nailed it.

This is actually a good thing and you shouldn't let it get you down or try to remove it.

I wouldn't worry too much, books with 100% positive reviews always seem a bit suspicious to me, like they are all paid for, or that friends are writing positive comments. It's only normal that some people won't like it, and his review is not one that comes across as very good. Just ignore it.

This is what happens when you put yourself out there. Don't take it personally. Just about every product on Amazon has a 1 star review...and if they don't, they are probably fake reviews.

This reminds me of like.. When someone reviews a TV and says this:

"THE TV IS GREAT BUT THE BOX WAS SCRATCHED SO I'M GIVING 1 STAR"

    ^ wtf?

    Or even worse

"The TV is great, but the shipping was late so I'm giving 1 star"

To answer your question, I'm not sure what Amazon's policy on removing reviews is. BUT, I doubt they will remove it, because then they can be accused of rigging the playing field so to speak. IF you think you've been wronged, contact support, and inform them that the negative review is groundless.

You are always going to get reviews that you don't like, that is just part of life.
Not everyone is going to like what you do so just move on and ignore it.
Would be different if each review was bad, there would be cause for concern then.

I buy on Amazon a lot and I do read the reviews and when I see reviews like this I don't pay any attention to them. Why should I listen to someone who is obviously ignorant and clueless? I wouldn't worry about it.

Amazon will not delete a negative review unless it's offensive.

I also buy quite a few books on Amazon, and I'm also a (twice) self-published author, so I take reviews very seriously. As other have mentioned, that negative review won't sink your book. Most people read the 1 star reviews (I read them first) and can usually tell the riff from the raff.

You didn't mention how many reviews you've gotten so far,but one bad review usualy does not hurt.

1 or 2 bad reviews out of 100 is not bad.

50% would not be good and not be bad. It depends on want type of book it is, non-fiction, fiction, or want ever.

Do not let the bad review bother you. Buy a copy for someone and ask them for their opinion.

I make it a point to read a 1 star reviews before any other review, I will read everyone one of them before I even buy a product. If their is an overwhelming problem that arises saying that x doesn't work or shipping was poor, I will not buy the product. The 1 star reviews usually make or break a product for me in terms of purchasing the product. Should they be removed, of course not, they have saved me a bundle of money. Can they help you, of course they can, if you have one negative review not pertaining to the product then there is nothing wrong with the product. Just some sad person feels the need to go on a rant because amazon reminded him/her to review the product they bought. Don't sweat it dude, you be just fine .

Don't be bothered to much by it. People won't pay any attention to those kind of reviews.

Thanks for the perspective everyone. I truly appreciate it. I don't mind negative feedback but under this circumstance it seems unwarranted.

    I feel your pain.
Personally, I tend to write a lot of erotica. I recently received a poor review because one of my readers got offended. According to her, I included a lot of "step dad having sex with step daughter." As a mom, she found it repulsive.

Well, if only she would have read the darn book description before buying it, I wouldn't have that blasted review right now.

In any case, you may choose to contact the reader directly and work with him/her to help you offer a better experience to future customers. Many of these reviewers publicly disclose their contact information, which is found by clicking on their name through the main review page. Kindly ask what exactly needs to be added or improved upon-- or at the very least try to come to a mutual (hopefully positive) understanding. If you do make any changes, kindly inform him/her of your actions while also providing a slight hint that you wish for the bad review to be modified.

Believe it or not, negative reviewers are not all evil and frustrated people; in many cases people will happily change their negative response into a positive one. The fact that you interacted and worked with him/her may go a long, long way, even if there's nothing to fix in your specific case. They may highly appreciate the fact that their voice was heard and taken seriously, and in turn they may show their appreciation.

Otherwise, just move on as other people have stated here. A single bad review will not hurt your sales, especially if the good ones outweigh the bad ones OR if the bad one is pointless and irrelevant.
