Your opinion on the viability of a 2 dollar Fiverr???

Your opinion on the viability of a 2 dollar Fiverr??? So instead of 5 it would be just 2 bucks only.

My thought was to offer the ability for upgrade options potentially so the seller could make more money that way but their existing offer has to be for just 2 dollars.

I was thinking this could be a good idea as I like fiverr but in all honesty I find that when I want to do those jobs I really don't want to even pay 5 bucks. I think many of them could be done for 2 bucks.

Do you think it's worth doing?

what services are those you are not willing to pay 5 bucks, for being too expensive?

Have used Fiverr with mixed results. Still $2 might be a way to check out the service provider for yourself. That way you don't have to rely on testimonials

I see such a site attracting two kinds of provider and one type of customer.

Some providers will be the bottom feeders who can't compete at $5, and will settle for $2 (less your cut, of course).

Some providers will be bait-and-switch artists, advertising what on first look will be a bargain sample service. Much like some of the come-hither WSOs people love to bitch about, the initial offer may be technically accurate but worthless without the more expensive add-ons.

The customers you would attract will be the people too cheap to try Fiverr.

Stir those together, add in the aggravation of dealing with both sides for peanuts, and it sounds like a perfectly lousy idea to me. For the providers, the customers and the owner...

ha ha, that was my thought exactly. It's hard enough to make money on fiverr, but just profiting on gigs. The people I know how actually make fiverr work for them, are the ones who can turn the people who purchase a single gig into a long standing customer on their on website.

I have had some success on this. One of my highest paying customers was a person who ordered a single gig on fiverr from me about 14 months ago. Some people use fiver to "test the waters"...

Why? Why would a seller use your $2 site and make $1.40, instead of using Fiverr where they can make $4 per gig?

Lowering the costs will attract many buyers but it is hard for them to get quality service for that much price, because sellers will lesser the quality to get more orders. At first, it might work, but you need to find a way to get same attention in the long run.

I think $5 is about as low as you want to go to at least earn a bit of a profit.
Remember if you are not happy with what they produce you don't have to pay for it.

It's worth a shot. As long as you can find people willing to sell their services for $2 initially, which I am sure you can, you will be able to compete with Fiverr!

It's a race to the bottom. Seriously what quality of work can anyone provide for $2...or probably less once you've taken your piece of the pie.

If such a site existed I don't think I would bother. Who would give a good gig for just $2 when they can get it at fiverr for 2.5 times more?

I am sure everyone thought the same thing with Fiverr as well, and there are a lot of great gigs on there.

Once you take the payment processing fees into account, a $2 version of fiverr just doesn't sound feasible.

Stop trying to copy something that's working to make money. Think a little outside the box.

There are sooooo many people who have attempted to 'clone' Fiverr and then simply change the price.

What makes you think that you can do better than all these others?

Just try and think a little more outside the box, come up with something that makes you unique (besides the price).

This doesn't sound like a good idea. Minimum wage in the US is $7-something in most places. A provider would have to average 6 gigs an hour to make any kind of money.

Well... if you can sell a $2 gig, then upsell them to a $500 package... more power to you.

Anyone with a budget of $2, is certainly not going to be interested in a $500 "upsell".

I personally feel that $5 is already very cheap already. If the price is even lower, there will be not much money for the merchant to make money.

$5 is pretty low already in my opinion. I'm not sure a $2 model would ever work successfully but since i have never done it all i can tell you is if you really want to do it.. Do it!

Or he could keep the price at $2, but make the providers anonymous.

Then he could say he runs a $2 WHO-ER...:p

Groan! (I'm guessing some people aren't going to get that one.)

I guess I'm just puzzled this thread has gone on this long. OP, why would you even be considering any business opportunity that doesn't have a clear and promising path to profitability for you?

That's always the first thing I look for. How do I make money out of this?

This might make sense for pre-packaged or template-based services. Also, automated services. However, for custom services, I think this idea would just match cheapo customers with scammers. Quite a lethal combination since you'll be spending most of your time trying to put out fires-for chump change.

There is $1 fiverr like site, $2, ... and probably every number you can imagine, if you didn't hear about they yet, I guess that is for a good reason lol.

You need more than numbers to compete with fiverr, you simply need something new that people want.

      Hi,

I would encourage new players in this market but if you are really seriously want to be in it for the long term and offer your customers good value then a $2 business/gig would not be sustainable to you as a business.

      1) PayPal Fees (3.9% + $0.3) = $0.37 for each $2 gig
      2) PayPal Mass payment fees 2% on $1.6 => $0.03
      3) Left for you: $2 - $1.6 - $0.37 - $0.03 => Exactly $0

Note: I'm aware that you can lower some of these costs but at least this gives you a figure to play with -> in some countries as a business you would need to pay VAT as well

Happy to help you further in setting this up

      Thomas

Well, that is super max. Bro a $2 fiver - perhaps you can post a pic of a two dollar bill with Andrew Jackson's face on it. Five dollars add up fast when you are testing people to see how good they are. This idea is Alpha Centauri awesome. What a bold new super nova. Hey, it is the long ball home run. Time to jump in is now.
