If You Buy Domains, This ICANN Petition Is Critical To You

I just read about this and know this new gTLD Program proposed by ICANN has the potential to wreak havoc for all of us who conduct any kind of business online.

Large Companies are Attempting to Takeover Top New Internet Names.

Like can you imagine Service Magic exclusively owning .plumber, .plumbing, .roofing, .roofer, .roof,. ADT exclusively owning .security, .alarm, or Google owning .books, .book, .research., researching or Amazon owning .deals, .discount, .bargains, .delivery, .cheap, .buy, .books (oh wait, in this example Google would already own the .book, extension) and not allowing any other companies allowed to use these extensions thus creating a closed generic domain system on the internet?

That is gist of the new proposal .

If ICANN allows closed generic TLDs to proceed, competition will suffer.


I urge you to please read and sign this petition. Only the largest companies in the world will own the virtual roads leading to their specific business categories.

    Everything that you have listed there is specific to a trade and or to area that is related to it.

    eg plumber, plumbing are a category for a trade and supplies.

    Look at the other ones also they are specific to a topic.

    The way I read it is that they are creating categories for specific areas and trades.

    This may make it easier to look up different services.

    People Do Not Like Change!!! This will open up the market to many new adventures.

    Just my 5cents worth. Inflation caused this to raise from 2cents to 5cents

    The people who dive into owning these top gltd's are going to have to figure out how sell the left to the dot names.

    If I already own a .com as a small business and have been advertising it for at least 5 years, why would I want to switch???

    It does not make any sense.

    I can understand a .gm, .ford or a major insurance company owning a .insuracne.

    However, those brand already do what they do best, branding.

    As for Google and other major search engines, it will be a way for them to sell advertising, which is what they already do.

    If it gets too commercialized, people will seek out the competion of google.com.

    Just look at what happened to yahoo.com.
    They focussed too much on ads and lost out to google.com
