Does Your 2013 Plans Included Google?

After the panda/penguin updates do you have Google in your plans for 2013? My white board is set, and Google is no where to be found. Sure I would love to have that free traffic we were all used to, but if Google wants to be an ass towards internet marketers, then so it, it's their right.

I was talking to a millionaire friend yesterday who has a tech business. I asked him how did you stay in businesses when your competitors went out of business? He replied "Well I always built quality products, but I decided to diversify and bring in machines to make plastic products, I didn't want to have all my eggs in one basket"

I laughed and thought, hmmm, where did I hear that before??? I have always planned to get away from Google as much as possible in 2013, but what are your plans? The way I see it, if Google doesn't want us there, than I don't want to be there. I will still try to get free traffic, but Google will be at the bottom of my list. I want to create products, list building, PPC and continue working with offline clients.

If your plans are to try and focus soley on Google, then I ask you, why?

Google is definitely in my plans because I get three times more traffic from Google than all the other methods combined. The rule is simple....create your own content. Don't rehash, spin, rewrite, make up stuff, copy, cheat, etc.

Create your own content and Google will give you credit for it. If your content isn't good enough to be authentic to Google, it's probably not good enough to pull in traffic from anywhere else either.

But yes, you can "diversify" in all the other lesser methods. Your competitor who ranks well in Google will still make more money than you and take the sales you could have had.

  Yes. Google can bring an unbelievable amount of traffic and it would be foolish to ignore it.
  
  That doesn't mean Google is the only source of traffic.

IMHO...Google should be part of your strategy, but not all of it. Personally, I'm going to focus more on PPC traffic through Google.

Everyone to their own. Personally, I have no time for SEO. It's slow, unpredictable and a complete waste of valuable time to the person who knows how to drive targeted traffic by other means. Anyone who says it's foolish to ignore Google is just plain ignorant. I will not be relying on search traffic in 2013 or any other years into the future for that matter.

People who know how to drive targeted traffic by other means should be making enough money to outsource SEO so that they aren't wasting their own time

After talking to him I realized, the only people that weren't affected by the penguin updates, were the marketers that never depended on Google in the first place, they were creating products and were using PPC, JV, and list building for all the traffic they could ever need

It certainly includes Google, but doesn't depend on Google. If you're publishing content it only makes sense to include some simple SEO. Trying to game Google with SEO is however an entirely different matter.

  There is no debate, Google does have a ton of traffic, but my goal for 2013 is to have success without having to rely on Google. I personally didn't get hit too hard with the new algo's because I never spent too much time on seo and target easy keywords, but it was a wake up call for me to drive my own traffic, even if cost money. The lure of free traffic is not as sexy as use to be

Yeah of course, Google is included in my plans for 2013.
Actually I've been looking for more advice and tips, guides etc. to improve our rankings.
One of our plans also involves hunting for new SEO software that we could use. So we could apply different strategies.

I will include Google in my marketing campaign but I will not base 100% on it. Imagine the years before Google is even around, there are still quite a number of marketers who are making good money from the internet. Having multiple source of traffic is still the key forward.

  Free traffic is definitely the way to go, but mastering every single free traffic method BUT SEO, and building your list through these methods I think is the real deal to start with.
  
  I will be creating a lot of pages in my blog which may have a positive SEO side effect, but I will not take the liberty to go on any link building campaign or create my pages on one KW. I'm hoping that my content will be killer enough so that people will start linking naturally, and spreading virally through social media.
  
  That should have a positive SEO effect - but even if it doesn't there are a lot of other strategies that one could and should master before tinkering with this SEO thing.

Since most people go to Google first when they are looking for something, then you have to keep Google in your plans. I agree, they are not as friendly as they used to be, but until the buyers go somewhere else Google is a requirement to at least pay attention to.

Not really.. I wasted A LOT of time with google SEO and adwords.. I recently bought a new WSO that says it can get good rankings in google so I might give that a go whne I get back from my holidays in Thailand..

But no doubt google will change there algorithm again once I get listed..

Solo ads, video marketing and adswaps..... THE FUTURE :p

As already said, diversify your traffic channels.

I too made the mistake of hanging everything off Google, until my mentor kicked me in the arse and I snapped out of it.

I wouldn't discard them completely though, they're too big to ignore.

Google always in my plans. I respect google terms.
I did a lot of new research and get a lot of new information regarding New SEO 2013.

Specially mistakes which we done a lot of in SEO like
- Anchor tag
- Keywords stuffing
- Linking strategy

Now I have new seo strategy with new plan and grabbing my all projects.

I know there is a way to get on Page 1 of Google and that is very valuable.

I can't say I should leave Google out of my plans, because I offer SEO services, then I MUST include it on my game plan this year. Otherwise, all my efforts will be futile and I can't leave my staff unpaid. Definitely, Google's on my bucket list.

I’m not much of a fan of monopolies as they always seem to end up as providing poor service to the end user.

Unfortunately, according to my research, Google currently has approximately 70 percent of the search engine market share. This makes it the biggest kid on the block.

So it would seem that Google is going to have to figure in all of our plans as far as online marketing is concerned.

Nope. Google doesn't figure in my plans at all. If I get traffic from them, great. If not, so be it.
I've spent way too much time following their rules only to find they change them at some unknown point in the future.

  I've always used an old marketing paradigm that predates Google: alignment of marketing to the targeted prospects' buying process. SEO has never been on the horizon, because in all of my niches there are so many other online/offline methods that are far more effective.
