It's just simply a URL shortner.

One of the benefits of using a bitly link is to use it as a simple "cloak" to hide your affiliate link.

It's a way of putting some aspects of your business into the hands and security of an entirely unnecessary third-party service provider.

And not one whose links everyone is even willing to click on - so you can combine "monitoring"/"redirecting" traffic with "losing" some traffic.

And it's not a very safe one, either: The .ly domain space to be considered unsafe | :Ben Metcalfe Blog

Url shorteners are sometimes good to track clicks if you are lazy or are just not that important you just want to get an idea?

For example do you know how many clicks your signature gets? you can set that easily with something like bit.ly but later on I suggest a stronger tool like cpvlab

Its simply shortens your URL. If you have a long URL that includes your website + plus a webpage, it will simply shorten it so it does not go across your page or email. People use this mainly with email, tweets, etc. Another benefit is that it also tracks your clicks.

Good question. No, but when people look these things up there instead of asking here, it deprives me of an opportunity to make acerbic, provocative and satirical comments about them, doesn't it? And that's part of my function here, y'know ...
