To Sale Website Private Or Public?

Hey guys I posted yesterday that I was in a financial situation due to a big charge back which I will win but can't wait till it's resolved and a FedEx dispute which I should win as well. Anyways I decided to sale this site, it's done close to $60,000 since June maybe averaging around $2,000 per month since I took it over. It's around $150,000 revenue in the last two years according to Google Analytics.

Anyways I want no less than $20,000 for this site, I have sold on Flippa before one of my sites went for $7,000 and that was a public auction. I am considering staying in this niche because it's going to get bigger but at the same time I really need the lump sum pay day to get though my current struggles. If you have sold private before how did that work out for you? You think it would have went for more if it was public? Thanks for your time guys.

Hey im not making that public lol I want to preserve the niche that's what the thread is about when putting it up for sale. It's an ecommerce site and the figures above are what it generated. I can't really give any other details at the moment unless a serious buyer was in play.

Jeff, I'm currently selling a website on flippa right now and from my experience so far, private seller will often lowball you unless they are extremely targeted / established / direct competitors.

In this scenario I think you would probably be best offering it on flippa, but then again, I'm not an expert in flipping, just a guy in a similar situation who's steering my biz in a different direction

Thank you for your feedback Alexandre I was thinking the same thing, so that's probably the rout I will go, is your auction on Flippa full exposure? As in all your stats, keywords, website ect.? That's what I usually do when selling but I am noticing a lot more private auctions on there as of late.

Jeff, I am giving all the information upfront yes. Not keywords and all but proof of income, stats, all relevant information. So far it's been up for a few days and no comments but a couple of watchers in the first few hours so I guess most of the action will happen closer to the deadline.

I ended up listing my site today. At the moment only two low ball newb bidders and 17 watchers. Hope things pick up it's a 7 day auction I am so nervous about this. I have sold sites before but this is my gold nugget at the moment or at least I am hoping.

Sounds like a good site. Send me a private message if you'd like me to have a look at your auction and maybe suggest some tweaks.
