    Hi Bryan

Once it changes to double opt-in with AWeber... you have to keep it like that, they don't give the option to reverse it in my experience

    Peace

    Jay

p.s. double opt-in is not necessarily a bad thing... I use it a lot, but I also hold other accounts, GetResponse, iContact for other options

Don't quote me but I seem to recall that single opt-in is against their policy.

    Bryan:

What probably happened is you exceeded their spam complaint threshhold, so they switched all your lists to confirmed opt in. Check your other lists and see if this is true.

There is no way to switch it back, you're stuck with it. Their service, their rules.

I have a hard time understanding why so many people have a problem with double opt-in. Aside from the fact that it protects you from getting shut down for spam (you can prove without a doubt that they opted in and confirmed).. do you really want someone on your list who can't even be bothered to click a link and confirm that they requested whatever information or product they asked you to send them? I mean, if they can't be bothered to open one email and click one link to get what they wanted, I have a hard time believing that they'll be very responsive to any other offers I might send them.

Thanks for the replies guys, I had a browse through aweber and think that I need to have double optin and as stated can't revert back to single optin. No spam complaints or that I am certain just must be policy now, It may have been like that for a little while as just tested it again yesterday for 1st time in a while and that's how I noticed the change.

I don't think it's necessary a bad thing either, I was just not sure and not informed why it changed. No probs though.

    Thanks for your help guys,
    Bryan

        Agreed.

Once you go double opt-in on Aweber, there is no turning back.

I'm finding that almost 50% of my aweber opt-ins aren't confirming for double opt-in - is this unusual?

not true.. all of my lists start as double, as it's the default, and I have to manualy switch them over to single.

Believe it or not, a lot of people out there have never seen a 'confirmation email' before, and do not trust them.

no - they will let you do single opt-in if you choose to.

Yes, you can change from double to single with aweber. I just did 2 weeks ago.

Your situation sounds different though, as it sounds like they forced an existing single opt-in list of yours to double opt-in. I haven't had that happen to me, but it would make sense that they wouldn't let you change it if they were the ones who did it.

I wouldn't have a list that wasn't double opt in these days. Many of the biggest ISPs will not accept mass delivery email unless the subscribers are confirmed double opt in. When emails bounce back as undeliverable a few times because they are not confirmed double opt in, they eventually get purged and you lose that subscriber.

I had imported a mailing list with a new list host when I had to change list hosts because my old list host went out of business. Within a few months my imported list of over 25,000 subscribers had been cut down to about 10,000. None were double opt-in, that wasn't even an option when I set the original list host account up, so the subscribers that were with major ISPs were purged when delivery was refused a few times. All that work in building my list went down the drain. The lesson: always use double opt in!

Note: The original list didn't suffer the purging because it was hosted with a private company, not a list hosting firm. Those in the business of list hosting work with the major ISPs to keep the delivery rate high, thus the requirement for double opt in these days. That's how it was explained to me anyway.

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.

guys - you CAN change a double opt-in list to single with aweber. I just did this 2 weeks ago. maybe my account is diffrent??

I just go to 'my lists' > 'confirmed opt-in', and click on the box (i believe it is green and says 'ON').

Hi Jason.. you are right, technically.

AWeber change this for each individual account based on some undisclosed factors, but I do believe it has something to do with spam complaints.... an account may or may not have the option, some people do and others don't

      Peace
