Good Free Blog design I can use?

I am in the process of wanting to start a blog - and at the moment I can't afford to spend any money on premium themes.

Are there any free themes you all would recommend to use, until I can purchase a premium one?

If you are a DIY kind of person and like to design things yourself, I recommend Atahualpa theme. Very easy to customize, you can download it for free from WordPress theme directory.

Michael, I would really recommend you waiting until you can purchase a premium theme before launching your blog. I know you don't have the money right now, but $50 (give or take a little) isn't a large investment to have a professionally designed website. Start looking for a theme that you like and start saving up for it. I'm guessing you'll have the $50 in no time!

Until then, why not just use Twenty Twelve? That would give you an opportunity to learn about menus, posts, pages, plugins, etc. You will have a good understanding of how WordPress works and you won't be overwhelmed when you do have enough money to buy a premium theme.

Yes, Twenty Twelve that currently pack with WordPress Package is a good choice for blog design as well other tasks. It has WordPress Standard, and new features of responsive layouts. If you could customize and tweak, it will be unique with WordPress Standard theme.

I just wanna tell you that most of the links in the signature are trash and/or a trap to make you pay!

Twenty Twelve is also reflexive design, so it works great on both computers and mobile devices. I don't really see the point in waiting till you get a premium theme to start though. First off, no one is even going to see your website for awhile (yes I know, its sad). Secondly, it takes time to get indexed, develop content, etc. Third, you don't even need a good looking theme to make money blogging. I did a case study on this awhile back where I put together two little sites with crappy themes based around adsense placement and both make about $20-$40 a month.

Edit: PS - if you go to appearance/themes then click the Install New tab at the top, you can search through all sorts of themes based on keywords, colors, layouts etc. Find one you like and use it. My most profitable blog uses a free theme that I got using the theme navigator.
