Contest as a traffic method?

Hey guys, Ive seen many contests which bring extremly good traffic.

They are going something like this:

Like us, Share us, Follow us and get a Chance to win "xxxx".

So, I am wondering, why so many contests do THAT well, and why so many contests just fail.
Ive searched a bit on google, and found alot of contests, which give away an iPhone or Laptop or even more, but have just 50 followers. And others, give away just a little book, get 2000 comments for that, to participate.


I dont get it. So, could some1 explain it to me please?

    Prmotion of the contest matters.
    Unless you promote your contest in a particular niche related to the contest ,you're not going to get any leads.

    Many contests which fail actually advetise everywhere which leads to the people to think that this might be scam.

    Contests are just like firesale. You have to gain attraction as much as possible.

    I believe there are several factors.
    1) Trust. People should believe you, so give them reason to trust you. There are many methods to do that. Provide clear information about the company.
    2) Clear and simple rules. People won't go for complicated list of activities.
    3) A desirable aim. You should give out items that people are interested in. If you give out something that is desirable for a large group of people (for example, a massage certificate compared with a rare rock album), you'll get more shares and engagement.

    You should give people what they want and take out from people what you want, this way both of you will be happy, or you will have the gain and they will just leave unhappy!.

    Just give them a precious thing that they will do anything to get and you'll be good!
